Thanks everyone! I believe the salmon is from British Columbia, and i believe it is farmed salmon. Not sure if that makes it better or worse, but I'm going to see what i can google.

For peace of mind though, I think I'll take him off the salmon. He does seem less red these days, but still pretty itchy!

Hi everyone,
Despite feeling like I've read a bazillion pages I still have what is probably the stupidest question. Are the meats in the raw diet literally raw, as in uncooked? If so, how do you avoid issues with things like raw chicken and the bacteria (or whatever bug it carries) that makes humans sick? Is this really not a concern for dogs?

Or is the meat really cooked and just referred to as raw because it's meat and not kibble?

Welcome to the forum! It is really raw meat. Dogs digestive tracts are much shorter than ours, so a healthy dog with a good immune system should never have issues like we do with salmonella and other bugs like that. Smile Any other questions you may have, ask away.

Wow thanks for the quick reply!

I feel like I walked into Target for a $3 gallon of milk and came out with $200 worth of stuff. I came in looking into reasons why Mia won't eat her food and end up researching crazy amounts of info on a raw diet.

She is very finicky and I think she was also spoiled by her previous owner (we rescued her last June) who gave her lots of human food. She turns her nose up at the kibble but can hear a cheese wrapper from three rooms away.

She also has epilepsy so I'm always trying to be aware of what goes into her body to either not exacerbate her condition or to help it.
