It's very common.

My boy squatted and still does on occasion. He was about 7 months before he started lifting and I think it's because he saw other male dogs lift.

Believe me, it's not always a good thing for them to start lifting because that is usually when they start marking and for some dogs nothing is safe after that. Lol.

^ Hahah. It's funny when Mishka pees in the middle of the yard, he halfheartedly lifts his leg.

Mine is 8mths old. Not neutered yet. And still squats too. BUT he basically pees within 5 seconds of touching grass, before we can reach a tree or anything. He will occasionally lift his leg if there is a post to pee on. But if there's nothing vertical, he will squat. Sometimes, if it's a bush, he does this awkward half-squat, half-leg-up, and then ends up peeing all over his front paws. Such a dummy.

Kobe kind of looks like Gus!

Dizzy saw another dog lift his leg when he was about 4 months old and started doing it, but I think he's just recently sort of figuring out the reason and marking. It was really funny to watch him almost fall over for a couple months. He's got better balance, but looks like he's going to fall forward head first sometimes, he also still squats sometimes. I wouldn't call it a problem, your pup just isn't sexually mature yet, and hasn't gone through puberty.

Hayden is almost two and squats. Every now and then he will barely lift his leg, but it's rare.

My lab is 12 and never lifted his leg. I tried taking him around a lot of older males too. Still waiting to see if Loki will.

Ok guess Kobe isn't the only one. lol. Its weird to me because when we go out on our daily walks he doesn't like to mark his territory or use the bathroom at all, he will wait till we get home and go there and squat in the yard. Gus and kobe look like twins. hahaha
