| Subject: hierarchy issue. Wed Mar 27, 2013 3:00 pm | |
| Hello, I just have some questions about the dog's hierarchy issue.
I have three dogs(Husky,Golden,French bulldog).
Husky is the oldest puppy, and she came home earlier than other two dogs. So I always feed my husky first to balance their hierarchy issue. My husky plays with Golden everyday, they just bite each other and chase each other, run , etc. But the problem is that when the Husky is eating, Golden is always trying to eat first. When Golden tries to eat the food that Husky is eating, my Husky just let him eat her food. However, Husky does not allow French Bulldog to eat her food. I am just curious because Husky is older, bigger, and I feed Husky first everyday, I do praise husky first. But it seems like Golden is first rank among their pack. I do not know why... and I am confused with this!
Please help me |

| A lot of factors come into play.
It isn't always the biggest or meanest dog who is the leader, or the most intelligent. Often times it just comes down to which pup is the most confident and comfortable in that role. If a challenged of leadership happens, then brains and strength comes into play.
You can never force leadership onto a pack. Some animals are just born as followers while others are head strong and stubborn and make a stronger leader. There isn't anything wrong with letting them sort it out and figure it out for themselves and attempting to dictate who is top dog can often lead to confusion and confrontation when it could have been avoided.
I wouldn't worry about it, or try and change it. It sounds like your pups have figured out the hierarchy all by themselves. Just let it happen, it won't take away from your husky's quality of life in anyway for him/her to be a follower.
