Forum Rules
1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect.
2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule.

Hi I'm Emily
Greetings form Colorado Devid_by_akmu-d644tgu_zps5ea6fade

and this is my baby Lucifer. First let me tell you how I came to be a first time (and very surprised) husky owner. in 2010 my old dog ,Spirit at least 13 died of old age, i was heartbroken, and refused to get another dog, and so when i married last year in 2012 i only had my cats. My husband had been looking at Siberian huskies on craigslist (mostly browsing) then he ran across this beautiful red husky. I told him "We can look but I don't want another dog", a few days later some pretty shitty things happened and he was just sitting there blankly and i said "Okay, come on we're going to go visit the red husky and if we like him you can have him", so we withdrew $200, his asking price and drove for two hours. When we got there he was in a small, and quite frankly less than nice pen. We talked to the current owners and they let him in the house, where he was nervous and skittish, he was covered in dirt, as well as painfully underweight. The husband insisted the poor thing was half "red wolf" (i know about Red wolves, sorry hon he isn't), and that he killed kittens. Well, right there he was attempting to play with their young long haired kitten and it spat in his face, he ran off.

We ha planned to try to bargain with them to haggle his price lower, in the end we shelled out the 200 and carried him to the car, on the way home he just aid there not caring, depressed, and despondent, looking at the stars. So "Sam" as they called him remained with us in the car til we stopped at Walmart for late night supplies. A collar,a leash,a little cheaper food to last the night til petco opened, and a dog bowl, auto water bowl, and some treats. "Sam" had his new collar and leash on right away, and we took him for his first walk, he suddenly light up and started going everywhere, he was suddenly so happy. Now, how "Sam" got his name, i was switching the lead to my right hand when he made a bolt for it and pulled the leash out of my hand, I chased him for a solid three blocks, athsma and all and managed to pounce and catch the leash. My husband ran up to me as i was still on my back, death grip upon the leash, struggling for air. "Sam" just smiled at us both and my husband laughed "Why don't we name him Lucifer, he's beautiful, and evil". So, now 9 months later i own a healthy 50-60 pound Siberian organ crusher (lovingly), who loves to talk, play, cuddle, and be my best friend. Nothing will replace the old dog that raised me but I now have a dog that cheers me up no matter how sad I still am about my old dog, he's as good a companion as any dog before, and I love him dearly.

I have a deep passion for huskies now, more than I did as a child and a better understanding of dog psychology and huskies, though I learned, no matter how wise to their tricks you are they find a way.

Such a sweet story with a happy ending! Glad he is bringing such joy to your life. My husband and I laugh that Kairi (the red one) can be so stubborn and trying on our patience sometimes but she always makes us smile. The two times she has escaped us she thought it was one giant game...tongue hanging out smiling. Never a dull moment and never a time they don't want to play, walk, run, or love on you Smile

Welcome what a lovely story on how you got him.. You will find there are alot of red huskies on here. I think my male looks somewhat like yours. Oh how old is he?? Bikejoring probably would be good with a husky. I have never tried it with mine.
