| We've been training our 9 month old puppy with positive reinforcement and clicker training methods since he was ten weeks old. He's done very well with it. However, there are some small issues we are still working on. He's very demaning at times. Mosly when he isn't getting something he wants fast enough or is made to do something he doesn't particularly want to do. He has suddenly started nipping again. Someone recommended we send him to a very reputable trainer who trains using a remote training collar. This seems to be opposite the methods we're using. Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts, opinions or even first hand knowledge that they can share. |

| 9 months is around the "teenage phase". Personally, I don't like e-collars or remote collars. I would stick with what you have been doing and keep consistent. Once he realizes his antics will not get him what he wants, he'll settle. Kale went through a similar phase around that age. It's like a 15 year old teen testing their parents |

| Thanks Brooke! Our puppy trainer is of the same mindset. She even mentioned that there is a phonomen called Extinction Burst and he might be exhibiting this behavior. We have a private training session this weekend, so I'm sure she'll come up with some good tips for us. I have to keep reminding myself that he's still a baby! |

| Agreed on almost points. Stick it out - it's just a phase that will pass.
I don't recommend e-collars for most people, and never to Stop a behavior or as punishment. There are times and places and ways to use e-collars right, and 99% of people just don't know it. Appa is going to get one, eventually. I'm just waiting until he's older, and I'm prepared and willing to sink the time into using it properly. I have a friend that trains hunting dogs professionally that uses them and I would never say what he does is causing any kind of pain after watching them in action. |
