| My youngest pup, Yukon gets car sick very easily. I never had this problem with Nikko so I was not sure how to deal with it. It is very unfortunate because there are all sorts of places that I want to take Yukon, but it is so stressful hoping that he doesn’t puke that I just stay home most of the time. Poor Nikko has not been to as many places as we used to go before the puppy.
I got him from a breeder about 4 hours away and on the way home I had him in a carrier. He did fine, and slept most of the way, but as we got close to home he threw up all over the crate. I figured it was from stress being taken away from the only home he knew. Since then, he has thrown up almost every time we have taken him somewhere. I thought it might be because he is inside the carrier, but he has also thrown up just sitting in the seat, and by holding him.
He usually does fine until we stop or slow down. Then he will start gagging and then throw up. I have talked to the vet about this and she suggested Dramamine. I have tried that, and I also do not take him in the car if he just ate. None of those seem to work.
There have been a few times where he has not gotten sick. He will be fine if we take very short trips, and also it seems that everytime we get on the interstate or highways it will make him sick.
My thought is that it is the motion that gets him sick. Now I don’t normally drive slow, so I have tried to drive slower and take turns easier with him in the car.
Has anyone else had to deal with a husky that gets car sick easily? And if so, what are things to give him or do that might help with that? I am really hoping that he outgrows it!

| My daughters Aussie got car sick all the time when he was under a year old. As he got old he seem to get over it. It may just take time for yukon to grow out of it. |

| My parents dog who is part lab, part collie used to get car sick. Dramamine helped him. He didn't grow out of it until he was about 5 or 6 years old. |

| My Neeka, gets car sick. But she is a pup though. Just recently she has been doing better. Unfortunately, I took her out yesterday. As soon as she got out of the car, she threw up all over the driveway Sorry I'm not of help, but I am having the same issues. |

| Have you tried ginger? I know some people who swear by feeding their dogs ginger snaps 30 minutes before leaving to prevent car sickness. I've never had to deal with it with any of my dogs so I can't vouch for it but it couldn't hurt to try. _________________ |

Sorry I'm not of help, but I am having the same issues. Yukon is the same way, I thought we were doing better but on Saturday he threw up 5 times by the time I got home It was only a 15 minute car ride, but there could have been other reasons for it. He was just at the vet and got his shots and got microchipped, plus it was windy that day so there was more movement in the car. |

I'll second the ginger. I haven't given any to dogs, but I personally have used it because I get airsick (yes, I'm a pilot that gets airsick... feel free to make fun). It works better if you build up a level in them before you travel, but it really does work. | a month later and he still gets carsick. We went to the dog park and he threw up twice on the way there. I tried Dramamine, sugary candy, and some calming tablets I got from PetSmart. I will have to try the ginger, that is about the only thing I haven't tried. He got neutered last week, so I am hoping that he outgrows it! |
