It been less then 24 hours since Luna been here already the amount of research I've done seem to be useless to me so far. study

1) Luna got her first collar today, but she seem to be starching around the neck area, we not sure if it's the collar or tick. (FYI-we give her bath today)

2) she seem to like licking her private area confused

3) I wake up at 12:30 to take her out, she started mouthing me so i i said NO and left the room, I came back to puddle of water. In the process of cleaning her,she went to our office room and took a number 2 twice! PLEASE HELP (Everything is happing now) 85993

4) I see little white or clear worms, but she went to the vet to get dewormed the breeder told me. What do I need to buy to get the kill off?

5) Early today she popped and it was not loose, now it's loose and stink too Suspect
Can it be our diet?

Right now she's laying next to my feet. I can't stay mad Evil or Very Mad

1. prolly just irritated to a new collar, it takes time to adjust to but just check around the neck region for any signs of bites, ticks etc.

2. shes a puppy shes gonna clean herself. how long is she licking for? only after potty? all day?

3. 1230 am? you need to take her directly out of the crate to the potty area, if she mouths, give her a firm no then still take her out cause she is telling you she needs to go. You have to always have an eye on your puppy, the minute you turn your back your gonna find a pile of poop somewhere. You have to stay consistent. remember puppies can only hold their bladder an hour per how many months old they are. WE took shadow out every hour-2 hrs when he was at 8 wks. every 2 hours on the dot at night. Set ur pup up for sucess!!

4. someone will answer this not to knowledgeable about that. sounds like worms and might need a vet visit.

5. what are you feeding? also, Your puppy just got home! Its going to take a couple days/ weeks for her to get in the swing of things, she is prolly a little nervous, she just got taken away from her family and is in a new enviornment. Keep her feedings on time so she knows when to eat!

it will pass you just have to stay consistent.. it sucks but it will be better for you and your pup in the end!

Every two hours, and set your alarm. We didn't see any accidents at night. Most of our accidents occurred after play time if we didn't get him out fast enough. You have to take a puppy out every time they eat, play, drink water, nap. On top of the every 1.5 hours you should be taking her out.

You need to go to the vet for worms.

1) I understand it's Luna's First collar.... but is it a new collar or did the breeder give it to you when you left? If it's the latter it could be dirty and in need of a wash. If not I agree it is probably just a new sensation and irritating her.

2) See Adam's Questions. These are important.

3) There is a time and a place to work on nipping. It isn't when you're getting ready to take her out. Mouthing training is much easier to train if your playing or working on other commands. Megan's advice will limit your accidents. Stay proactive.

5) Remember. Even your water can and will effect your pup's digestion. Expect loose stools for a little while. Even if you haven't changed her diet yet, you just took her away from her family in a strange metal beast (I'm assuming you drove) and dropped her into a new giant pen she has never seen or smelled.

It's stressful to say the least.

4) maybe try and bump your appointment up by explaining the worms on the phone to the receptionist. bring a stool sample in with you when you go.

6) Welcome to having a puppy Smile. It does get better..... but I would prepare for it getting worse in the mean time Smile...... And just think!!!!!! The second you stop wanting to pull you hair out it will be time for the TEENAGE YEARS!!!!

hehe best of luck.

~Chris~

1) Luna got her first collar today, but she seem to be starching around the neck area, we not sure if it's the collar or tick. (FYI-we give her bath today)
She is most likely just irritated by the collar being on her, it will take a while for her to get used to it being on. To be sure check around her neck for any fleas, flea bites or Ticks, if there is nothing there then she is just not used to the collar

2) she seem to like licking her private area
This is normal, providing she isn't doing it at every waking moment of the day, if she is doing it every now and again during the day she is just cleaning herself, this is something she will continue to do even when she is an adult. I wouldn't be too concerned with it unless she was constantly liking it all day, or licking it for very long periods of time.

3) I wake up at 12:30 to take her out, she started mouthing me so i i said NO and left the room, I came back to puddle of water. In the process of cleaning her,she went to our office room and took a number 2 twice!
Her mouthing at you may have been her way of telling you she needed to go, as said above take her out every couple of hours to get her into a routine and used to going to the toilet outside, if you see her sniffing around and squatting then tell her no and pick quickly pick her up and move her outside

4) I see little white or clear worms, but she went to the vet to get dewormed the breeder told me. What do I need to buy to get the kill off?

if the breeder only took the pups to get wormed once in the 6-8weeks they would of had them, then she may be due to be wormed, from memory puppies should be wormed every 2/3 weeks until they are 12 weeks old, then they only need to be wormed every month until they are 6 months old and then every 3/4 months from 6months onward, hopefully someone can clarify if that is correct? I would ask the breeder when they were last wormed first, the vet will most likely ask you when you ask them about it as well

5) Early today she popped and it was not loose, now it's loose and stink too
Can it be our diet?

PostSubject: Re: PLEASE HELP (Everything is happing now)    PLEASE HELP (Everything is happing now) EmptyTue Aug 21, 2012 9:07 am

Everything you are describing is normal puppy behavior and should be expected regardless of the breed. You may have done tons of research on the breed, but did you research on puppies and their normal behavior? They do have articles online that can answer most of you're questions. I'll answer to the best of my knowledge.

1. Puppies aren't use to collars, therefore they will scratch at it. It's like someone putting something around you're neck that you're not use to, so you touch it. Or little kid's getting a new haircut, they have to keep touching it. A good rule of thumb is if you can comfortably fit 2 fingers under the collar, it's not too tight. I highly doubt it's a tick, but if you have concerns, just check her over. If you give puppies a bath too often, you can dry out their skin and will become itchy.

2. Licking their private area is completely normal. They can have discharge, could be itchy from the bath, or just cleaning themselves. On another note, if she is over licking and acting painful, she could have a UTI, but I don't think that is the case here. My two huskies lick their area all the time, I just ignore it.

3. Not to be rude, but her having the accident was completely you're fault. You should have corrected her when she mouthed you (which is also normal behavior) and then took her out right away! Puppies are like infants, they don't just come potty trained, you have to teach them and can't expect them to hold it. They have no control over themselves and being that young, accidents do and will happen. You need to be consistent in letting her out. If she is having a lot of accidents at night, you may want to take her water up 2 hours before bed. Also, every time she wakes up from a nap take her outside!

4. It's common for puppies to have worms. You're vet will treat with vaccinations, medication, or both. You've have had you're puppy less than 24 hours she clearly has not had all of her shot's. You need to take her to the vet for her additional shot's.

5. Her poop is probably loose, because she is in a new place and is nervous. It's normal for her poop not to be solid the first few days. If it continues to be runny and loose, it could be diet related. For now, let her get settled in and go from there.

Honestly, you have no reason to be mad. She's just a baby and lot's of mistakes will happen. A lot more worse thing's will happen through you're journey with you're puppy. You need to have patients and understand you're baby is not perfect. You mold them and only turn out as good as the effort you put into them.

I wish you luck and hope you did not take offense to the advise I gave you. I was speaking on my experience with dog's and only want the best outcome for you're pup. Smile

Check out this link, it's good at answering basic questions.

Thanks kelly, it was very useful.

Sammie, she popped last night around 12 in the morning. For her diet the breeder told me they feed her cook chicken with cucumber, when I feed her she only eat the cook chicken. Crying or Very sad

My girlfriend bought Blue Buffalo "Freedom", but it said it was manufactured in USA,but not Made here, so I'm holding back in feeding her that. I heard things that are not made in USA can get the puppy sick

Can someone please share some lights in the matter or should I just go head in feed her that?

The worms you describedd sound like tapeworms, and normal dewormers do not kill those off, you need a prescription, preferably Droncit, from your vet. Dogs and cats get them from swallowing fleas, so make sure that you treat your environment and Luna for fleas. Normal dewormers treat for roundworms, whipworms, and hookworms; Parasites that need a different medication are tapeworms, coccidia, and giardia. I think everyone else touched on all your other questions Smile

Any drug with Praziquantel in it (like Iverhart Max) will kill tapeworms also. Not sure what's safe for puppies, ask your vet.

You've got all the advice you need already! I just want to add that if you're spending more time inside than you are outside then you're doing something wrong as far as house training your pup is concerned!

Your little pup WILL pee after every drink of water, after every play time, after every nap and pretty much every half hour to an hour in between! You need to take her out, and at this stage, you literally need to pick her up and put her down outside. Same goes for during the night, set your alarm for every 2 hours. If she is asleep, wake her up, have your shoes on, the door open, pick her up and take her outside, theres no time to waste here, if you let her wonder around for 10 seconds she will pee! Then there is the poo to worry about - from my experience, the consistency of their poos when they are that young isnt great, stick to a steady diet, sort her worms out with a prescription from your vet (you need to go ASAP, you cant wait till next Tuesday!!) you should be fine.

Remember, when she is 3 months old, you can increase your alarm intervals to 3 hours, then 4 etc. etc. when she is about 6 months she'll hold it through the night. If you hear her cry, and she is crate trained, then its likely she needs to go to the toilet. Oh, and yes, even at 4 in the morning, when you can't even open your eyes you need to praise her when she pees or poos outside, you need to make sure she knows its the best thing in the world to do her business outside.

From experience, house training is the most crucial thing to a less stressful upbringing of your pup. So be consistent with her training.

There is no nutrients in cucumber, for humans or Dogs, it is a pretty much just water, and i don't think she would be getting all the nutrients she needs from a diet of only cooked chicken. She wouldn't be getting anything from the cucumber anyway so i wouldn't worry too much about her not eating it.
I am in Australia so i am not too sure on the kibble brands/quality of each brand you guys have over there, but when ours were pups, and when we were breeding, they were fed on a high quality kibble for puppies (can't remember the name off the top of my head). I would move her away from the cooked chicken diet and onto a high quality puppy kibble, but that is just what i would do, someone else may have a more suitable recommendation.
I am not too sure about the things not made in the USA making puppies sick, as mentioned i live in Australia, so whether that applies to us who knows. It sounds a bit silly in my honest opinion, i struggle to believe that a dogs digestive system knows the difference between a USA made product and a non-USA made product, i don't think it is going to process it differently, an egg is an egg regardless of the country the hen laid it in.*flame suit on the ready* But i could be wrong, that is just my opinion.

Sammie, the issue isn't that the products are the same - its that the products from China have killed/made sick a lot of dogs in the U.S. - People are being VERY cautious about feeding ingredients from China.

Also, U.S. has stricter production policies than some Asian countries. It's a legitimate fear for him to have, since dogs and cats are getting so sick on chicken and sweet potato.

As far as diet, I feed raw now. I would say that uncooked chicken is much better than cooked and will provide the majority of nutrients necessary. Some say all - I supplement my raw feeding with flaxseed, coconut oil and vitamin E. I also give berries as they provide a lot of nutrients.

Giving cucumber is completely safe, but it won't have much of an effect, aside from making them pee. Although, mine really like it. Puree Carrots instead or give sweet potato.

Just my two cents!

So, we called the vet yesterday and we were able to go in, She gave her a strongid-T dose. Her popped were a little bit watery after that. This morning, about 15min ago she popped and there seem to be a lot of dead warms unlike before.

She will go for her shots on Tuesday, the vet here told me she have to be 12 weeks before they can spray her. I've scheduled her for mid September for spray. I'll try to push a it a little early because she's nipping a little to much. When people try petting her (which seem like every time they see her) she get excited or something and tried to bite. Evil or Very Mad

One thing I noticed about her Not sure if it's normal, she does like sleeping a lot , I mean really sleeping. We would play with her and then she would walk away and go take a nap Suspect People think she's lazy

Brooke I think she have fleas, we took off her dog collar and she was biting/nipping her leg? So on Tuesday we will tell the vet about that.

Erinc-last night we were so tired and forgot to wake up at every 2 hours and she didn't pee or poop. she held it until all night. This morning around 6am she popped. I was so happy that she held it that long ^_^

Sammie, food(chicken) that are Made in China seem to have lots of recall of them. That's one reason I was afraid of kibble.

Megan- My girlfriend and I will start raw in two weeks:) She crossed over to the dark side Evil or Very Mad LOl

Kizmat Jeter adopted us last week. Like you we're learning a ton. It isn't always easy but it's a labor of love. I've found this site and the folks here are the best resource I've found. I can't offer much except to let you know others are going through similar stuff at the same time. So while things are going great for us right now with a puppy things are always subject to change at a seconds notice.

You are probably better off doing some training with her rather than relying on a spay to stop the nipping.

Puppies do sleep a lot! I think I remember reading 14-16 hours a day when I was doing my research.

Treating flees is easy, but I would do it sooner rather than later, it must be uncomfortable for her. I know some members here also use scented oils, but I don't know if thats a preventative measure or if it will get rid of flees as well. The dead worms in her stool is what you should see, she'll hopefully be clear of them in no time!

Im very surprised she held it that long! Clever girl!! I remember sometimes missing an alarm and Luka holding it for up to 4 hours during the night, but never all night at that age!

We started training with clicker, she doesn't good on on recall.

I'm going to buy Petco Flea & Tick Dog Shampoo today. My girl have a problem with keeping things clean she want to shower 2-3 time a month. I was wondering how many time should a husky be showered?

I hate to break it to you, but most huskies are less than impressive with recall. They have a mind of their own.

Just use dawn dish soap - its just as effective and cheaper. Huskies don't need to be bathed once a month even. Delilah gets a bath twice ayear, but just for good measure. Cato is more frequent because he gets dirty. They don't get smelly like other dogs.

Creamy. Always creamy. Chunky just gets messy and then you have peanuts stuck in the kong forever.

Junior I know exactally how you feel. I brought my puppy home Saturday. I had the same questions myself. However the breeder told us right of the bat that he had worms and why he had a large stomach. He ended up having roundworm that he got from the mother. A simple reworked started work that day. Same with the collar. He wasn't used to it so he kept trying to scratch at it. Now that he has worn it a few day he hardly remembers its there. As far as the runny stools. I first thought it was stress related but Oakley ended up having coccidia as well and it wasn't until yesterday that his stools started to firm up. Aas far as the accidents, as what everyone else has said just be ready for them. I didn't pick up on the signals from him and didn't have his potty schedule down so I missed them. God bless natures miracle. You will get there. We have made leaps and bounds by just working with him religiously and starting off with positive reenforcment. Huskys have a knack for pickin things up quickly it seems like.

Creamy. Always creamy. Chunky just gets messy and then you have peanuts stuck in the kong forever.

I can vouch for this!
