Raw Feeding Video & Questions. Empty
PostSubject: Raw Feeding Video & Questions.   Raw Feeding Video & Questions. EmptyMon Aug 13, 2012 10:51 am

Hi all,

Luka's fed on kibble, mainly, but I do give him raw as well in addition to his normal diet. He get fed Orijen - and we have to order this off the internet! When availability and delivery times have to fit in with my paycheque - sometimes (like now) we are without kibble for a few days, so he just gets raw.

I feed him 3% of his current bodyweight, here is a video of him eating a chicken wing.

I have a couple of questions!
1. When chicken is frozen for a while, and i defrost it, it has a very light smell to it... is this OK? I only noticed this because I'm so careful about what he gets fed - if it was for me, it would just go straight into the frying pan lol! It gets frozen from fresh, defrosted in the fridge for 24hours and then I feed it to him.

2. Is he eating at a normal pace? Is he chewing enough? With the last bits of the wing, I think he just crushes it all in his mouth and swallows, wheres at the start, he rips/cuts bits off. I do feed him larger pieces too but he does the same, even if the last bit has bone in, he'll just crush it down and swallow it whole.

I know I worry too much but I'd rather be safe than sorry!

Thanks in advance for everyones time!

1. A little smell is okay on occasion. Your freezing, thawing, and feeding schedule is perfectly fine. Don't forget their systems are tougher than ours. I've fed meat that had quite a bit of nasty odor that I wouldn't dream of considering for human consumption and my dogs had no trouble with it whatsoever. Note, that is not a regular occurrence but has happened twice.

2. Luka's pace is brilliant, he takes his time like a pro. He eats at about the same pace as my sibe. I wouldn't be worried at all.

Hey Val,

Thanks a lot for your input - mind is at rest now!

Mr Brown, I get Luka's meet from our local supermarket - they always have 3 whole chickens on offer for £10 - which will feed Luka for 6 days. That price suits me! I get big beef bones from local restaurants that otherwise throw them away - those have quite a bit of meat on too! Our local fish mongers donate off cuts (practically big chunky steaks) for Luka's consumption. We do pretty well lol, whenever you can get meat for cheap, just buy in bulk and freeze! I brought 3 chickens just today, halved them, bagged them and froze them.

Don't forget to balance the diet with organs too - theres a bunch of info on here in regards to raw feeding thanks to the pro's we have posting!
