Embry had been licking and chewing on his foot the last couple of days. I never really thought a lot about it. I looked at it tonight and it was bleeding, hair missing and swollen. it's like on his toe directly on the side. Any ideas what is going on?

It looks like it might be a bug bite that he then licked raw. Could you find a stinger/bite mark?

Well, I'm not sure what it could be. I'd go to the vet, if there was blood around and I couldn't seem to figure out a reason why, I would go. Until then, disinfect and bandage. Most important thing is to keep it from getting infected until you figure out what happened. A Little gauze and bandaging should keep him from licking it.

| Does he have a splinter or something? Maybe theres something in it? Is there a cut or something that is causing it to bleed?
Bandage it up and see if that deters him from licking at it, it might give it a chance to heal. If he continues to lick at it, or it continues to bleed take him to the vet, get him to have a look at it and possibly ask for a collar to stop him licking at it.

No ideas from me but I'd take him to the vet just to be safe, especially if it might be infected. _________________

| Well now whatever was wrong with his foot, spread to his face. I was treating his foot as a hot spot, but now I'm doubting it. I think ZRD or mange?? He has a vet appt. at 230. He's very irritated by it, keeps scratching it and making it bleed more.

Doesn't look like ZRD or mange. Glad you are getting it looked at. Good luck and keep us posted.

Good luck at the vet today, hope it's nothing serious or expensive to treat. Let us know what the vet thinks! _________________

Well his foot his a heat/grass rash and his face is inflamed whisker follicles. $110 later we left with 10 days of cephalexin and hopefully this helps

That's better than ZRD, hopefully he's on the mend now.

Well that's good to hear, at least it's really minor stuff. I'm curious as to why the antibiotics? Did he say? _________________

Not really, I think it's because he was really irritated when his foot was touched and she wasn't really sure what his foot was but assumed from tall grass. She wasn't very helpful at all.

Sure looks likes a embedded grass awn, if so they can cause a nasty infection.
