| Im opening this thread because this problem has occurred twice already this year.
More than two months ago i came home finding blood on the top of his paws. I took it to the vet, no foreign object, they took blood samples and nothing serious. He was on antibiotics for a week and that was it. It started to heal, the hair started growing back. I kept him on his cone whenever i leave the house to make sure he doesn't lick off the growing black thing that covers the healing wound.
Everything looks fine for a month now or so. I can leave him now at homeand he doesn't lick it anymore. Although the scab isn't completely gone yet.
Yesterday we played at the park. He stepped into a muddy portion. When we got home i wipe each of his paws. And each time we come home i would always check it for any thing that could possibly hurt him. So all was fine. Until i was about to sleep and i saw it sore again. Of course it was wet from his licking.
I just cleaned it with water..cut shortly the fur around the wound ...and bandaged it. There was a small pus that came out. But very small. Like 1 dot. That was it. When you press the affected area ..there'll be little blood but as sson as you release it, it doesn't bleed. There's a little bit of inflammation..very little. I can press it and he's not reacting at all. I guess it's not painful to him.
Anyone had the same problem? |

| I'm not an expert on this and hopefully someone with more knowledge will speak up but I found two links that might describe the symptoms you are experiencing: http://www.petplace.com/dogs/acute-moist-dermatitis-hot-spots/page1.aspx http://ww.peteducation.com/article.cfm?c=2&aid=471
Good luck. I hope your baby feels better! |

| My guy had something similar on the bottom of his foot...under all the toe fur. He wouldn't stop licking it and it became all swollen and red around the "spot" and there was a bit of pus/blood coming out. The vet had to shave it to have a good look. She diagnosed him with "pyoderma". Basically a skin infection with pus. He's been on antibiotics for a week and she told us to clean his foot daily. We soak it in epsom salts for as long as he can stand being in the bath, then dry it and put the cone on him. However he only has one dose of antibiotics and the entire paw still appears red.....I see more dollar signs in my head. Let me know how you make out. |

| My greyhound used to lick holes in herself if we left her at a kennel, with her it was stress related, we had to stop kenneling her and instead had my niece stay with her when we had to go away. They called it hot spots. There are sprays you can use to try to stop the licking. |

| Thanks for all the tips..yeah i read of the epsom salt as well..ill try takea picture but it's hard holding him and his paw. the first occurrence was just weird, b/c bullet doesn't have a habit of licking all the time. He licks , e.g. When he's dirty...he will sort of clean himself. Maybe even the scab irritates him. He will see his vet this coming weekend for his comprehensive exam, i'll have it checked again.
But so far this evening it looks better. no pus, but still a bit open. I just cleaned it with warm water and he was fine with it.
Ill do some homework on demodex and pyoderma.
Thanks, again.

| I'll try to get one..checked on it today, doesn't look like it's healing. It's just the same. Hasn't worsened, too.
I checked some images of pyoderma and DemodIcosis (one caused by demodex mites)..they look different..this one's just localised on this one spot.
If until tomorrow this doesnt improve, ill have him see his vet again. |

| my mom has a lab who has a similar sore on his leg right above his paw. it never heals because he never leaves it alone [licking, chewing, etc]. The vet says its because he's bored and they've been doing more with him and it looks a little better, but its still raw and never really scabs over. i think its cuz he;s 15 years old and just doesn't heal as easily. |
