Hi everyone!

This is Niko. He had a crazy start to life, which makes me believe that the rest of his life is going to be an absolute joy.
If you'd like to read his grand tale, it's posted here.

So for the next several months, my parents are taking care of him and I'm visiting as much as I can. He's doing great. Got a pretty upset tummy which is painful for us as well as him, but we're workin on that.

He's got a wonderful personality and enjoys talking to us, rolling around in the ivy, and especially going for rides in the car.

Thank you all for stopping by!

He's so cute and crazy story.. And people think I'm crazy for not leaving my dog un attended. I was in Tahoe and my fried wanted to grab something to eat and he's like "just tie her up out her for a bit." I was like um not happening, as much as I would like to gift wrap my 1300$ dog for some stranger.

Sorry for the mass of pictures, but I just love seeing how these dogs grow. This is Niko's life from 8 weeks old until now (about 4 and a half months).

We do too. And as someone who doesn't have a puppy, I rely on this website to get my daily puppy-adorableness fix! And that picture of Niko in the tub is freaking priceless. Beautiful pup you've got there; keep the pictures coming!

My poor baby got tagged by a copperhead snake this weekend Sad It rained a ton here in southeast Texas this weekend, so all the snakes came out to play. He's gonna be fine, he's just a little sore. Copperheads make the dog's muzzle/head swell up real bad and is very painful for the dog. Fortunately, they'll usually get over it within a day or so. We got lucky it wasn't a rattler, honestly. Those suckers will kill your dog in under an hour. Also be careful with water moccasins. Their bites make their tongues swell up and they can choke on them. It's not a bad idea to have some sort of tube handy just in case to shove down their throat in case this ever happens.

Otherwise, he's a very healthy, very happy boy indeed! Growing like a weed. He's a solid 35 lbs after 5.5 months, so I'm not entirely sure if that's small/big/normal.

Poor Niko! I hope he feels better quickly and doesn't have any ill effects from the bite. I worry a lot about snakes around here, we've got quite a few rattlers and moccasins with the occasional copperhead, and I'm constantly on the lookout when we go hiking. Were you in your yard or elsewhere?

35 lbs at 5.5 months sounds about right. Ghost was 35 at 6 months, and is on the big side for a female.

nope, it was around dusk (stupid on my part. That's when the snakes come out). Plus it had been raining a ton this weekend, so I knew it had stirred them up. Anyway, he just wanted to go out in the back yard to do his duty so i let him go on his own.

He came back in a couple minutes later, acted a little funny. 5 mins later he pooped on the carpet, then took himself off to his crate and laid down, which was weird. Checked on him again 10 mins later, and reached in to pet him and he screamed at me in pain, which is when we noticed his lil head wasn't so little anymore, and he had some blood on his muzzle.

Took him to our vet friend pronto, who pumped him full of cortizone and other pain killer stuff.

Poor lil dude. It's so scary because they're such curious and inquisitive dogs. He probably thought the snake just wanted to play.

Anyway, he's much better this morning. He's not in pain and the swelling has gone down a bunch. Fun fact for the day: Dogs are much more tolerant to snake bites than us humans!

That's good to hear he's doing better this morning. There was another family in our last training class who let their Corgi's out in their yard during dinner about a year ago. One of them got tagged by a snake and died. They never figured out what kind it was, but judging from where they live it probably was an eastern diamondback, though it could have been a moccasin. We get copperheads around here, but they're rare. Yet another reason to move the hell away from here...

Between getting stolen, moving around, and now a snake bite, lil Niko has had a pretty rough start to life!!

Wouldn't know it if you met him, though! Absolutely full of nothing but joy and love (and mischief).

I am so glad Niko is doing better. I always worry about my dogs finding snakes We have found several in our yard small ones I do not believe they are poisens ones but we do have those in Oklahoma.

These dogs love things that move always curious about everything.

Give Niko a hug and wishing you both the best from here out.

Poor baby, he sounds like a real trooper though. I adore the growing up pictures, especially since I have to wait until the end of the year for my pup. I love the bathtub picture as well, really cute. Although the pictures of you two together melt me, you can see the love you have.

As a cuisine expert in the foot category, I must say that this specimen is disappointing. Well undercooked, the seasoning is muddy, and the texture is much too sock-y.
