Forum Rules
1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect.

The question comes up  and I stole this from  TruthAboutPetFood (with permission) but it hasn't been updated for quite some time.  
I will try to update this so it remains somewhat current and complete.
If you see any errors, please let me know so I can correct them; if you know of any omissions, again, please let me know so I can research and include them.

Since we're an international group, the date format I'm using is Year/Month/Day (to avoid the obvious international date confusion - I'll just create more confusion Smile)  The date is all zero's if *I* haven't confirmed the producer.  Links for the manufacturer are to the site which verified the producer -or- on the product the site which provides product information.

1 I'm not satisfied that Flint River manufacturers their own product, but it does appear as if it is all they distribute.

It's sometimes difficult to determine the true manufacturer since the only references I can find are to the parent company. For example, Nestlé owns Purina; is Nestlé actually the producer of the pet food? I'm honestly not sure.

As I'm putting this update together, I'm finding it very interesting from a several different viewpoints:
  • from a company hierarchy viewpoint; for example Cargill not only produces Loyall and River Run pet foods, it also owns Nutrena and Purina!
  • Some companies, such as Berwind Corp, simply state on their web site that they own Holistic Select and Wellness, among others. Other companies make it almost impossible to determine who owns them / manufactures their products.
  • Determining who actually produces the food or where it's actually produced is almost impossible. A plant in one location may produce food for several brands but be owned by a holding company that owns none of the brands!

This is rapidly becoming an exercise in corporate structure rather than manufacturing ... sorry.

Very interesting information! It's hard to find information on some of these companies, I can imagine.

Great info Al, thanks for putting in the time so all of us have an idea on who makes what!! It goes to show, though, it is almost impossible to pin point the exact facility and owner that makes our beloved companions foods.

Locating the owner is a lot easier than locating the real manufacturer. The only way I connected Arkat to Ainsworth is that they have the same phone number! Nothing on either website indicates that Ainsworth owns Arkat!
