Forum Rules | 1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect. 2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff. 3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned. 4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule. |

My vet told me to wait until he was after 8 months old so that it wouldn't affect his growth or whatever. We waited way past that, but just because we kept chickening out..lol |

| I think asking those kind of questions, you'll get different answers from every person you speak to, vet or not. |

Very true. that's why I said in the beginning that it is a personal preference. Weigh the pros and cons and decide what you feel most comfortable with. |

| O.O I've been wondering why my boy hasn't been doing the leg-lift but I believe it's because he hasn't seen another dog do it. He's not neutered yet. I'm personally trying to see if it's something I want to do for him. Koda's like 7 months old and hasn't tried yet! He does engage in humping though lol -_- He'll play with his "girlfriend" for 30+min and when they begin to simmer down, she'll stay still and he'll try and hop up! She's spayed though.
I've researched this time and time again, but like Legend_of_Faolan said, there's just so much info. I prefer testimonials over articles. If you've ever had a dog that wasn't neutered, what differences have you noticed in your neutered dogs that made the procedure worthwhile in your eyes? |

Un-neutered males have an extremely high risk of getting prostate cancer and/or testicular cancer, neutered males that have the procedure done at least by 2 years don't usually have a risk at all. Un-neutered males also tend to want to roam more if they sense a female in heat. A male dog can smell a female in heat up to 3 miles away. Pretty impressive! haha |

Pretty impressive! haha Yep, the main reason for me is to to avoid the chance of cancer. Plus, I've lived with many un-neutered males at my parents house and they tend to become more aggressive towards other males. That to me was reason enough to get Kody neutered. I didn't want to take the chance of my sweet boy getting aggressive towards other dogs. Oh, and definitely didn't want him freaking out and wanting to get out because there's a female in heat in the neighborhood. |
