Can't tell if my husko is depressed Empty
PostSubject: Can't tell if my husko is depressed   Can't tell if my husko is depressed EmptyWed Jan 17, 2024 10:02 pm

I've only had her like 10 months now, so I have no baseline to tell, but she seems really lazy.

We go on a walks for about 2 hours a day cumulatively. She's fine with those. Always runs when I do. Smells everything. Tries to kill every other animal. Very energetic.

But at home, she might wander about awake for like an hour or two, maybe look out the window or chew on one of her toys. But then the rest of the time she's basically a doormat or a pillow. Just sprawled out laying there for hours. Not necessarily sleeping, most of the time I look her eyes are open. I try to play games with her, but she literally does not like playing any game. She only likes to run and be chased. I give her plenty of attention throughout the day, but primarily it's her just lying there being a pillow while I pet her.

Is that normal? Like how active should she be during the day and for how long?

@Stray I don't think what you're seeing is that unusual. When you're out and about there are things to see and do ... so she does. But at home where it's the same thing she's gonna chill.

Most of the time, you say, that her eyes are open - watching you - which is really about the norm, I think, with most dogs.

Now, dogs are a lot like people, some of us set 'round all day 'cause "we have nothing to do" and others are always active because "setting there is a bore!" If a pup gets bored enough you'll know it. You'll be wondering where that shoe went (and then you find pieces of it); she'll be right under foot all the time until you get her out ... she has a lot of ways to let you know she's bored but depression as we think of it, nope.

If it was just out of the blue that she did that thrn maybe its depression but if she is always like that, its just her. Granted mine are old but spider spends most of the day and night in the bed. She runs in the yard a little throughout the day but mostly she just kinda chills out. Squirt is a wound up hyper dog regardless. But of my 4 3 mostly just chill at home but are crazy energetic out of the house.

When my dogs are depressed they arnt into anything inside or out. Splinter will stop barking.

As for playing, my boys play with me, spider rarely does but she mostly plays with herself or splintter. Squirt thinks fetch means chase the ball look at it, come back without the ball.
