| Subject: Frontline AND Capstar?!? Wed Nov 02, 2016 11:46 am | |
| Hi everyone, I have 1 Siberian, Jack and 1 Huskamute, Sasha. We are dealing with a flea issue for the first time ever. They are both on Frontline plus. Jack is completely not affected- no itching and I haven't spotted a flea on him. Sasha on the other hand is up all night the past few days. We recently fogged our home and came back in to many dead fleas. We vacuum like crazy, I put this Earth powder stuff all over our carpet. I washed everything. I mean I really did everything I could possibly find on the web from people's experiences.
I don't know what to do. Everything is normal with Jack and Sasha is having the flea issue. I even checked to make sure her skin was okay from her last Frontline application and it's fine. I don't know why they are attacking her and not him. I put peppermint essential oil on her last night and she got instant relief from it and slept. The moment we woke up she was back to scratching.
I read on another forum that one can give cap star and frontline plus. They had their most recent front line app 3 days ago. I've never given cap star. What do you guys think?
Totally desperate to get rid of these fleas. I vacuum like a maniac to try and get any eggs, larvae etc.
Thanks so much!! |

| I have used capstar along with their topical spot on tx on the 2 occasions that I've had an outbreak without issue. The capstar will kill close to every adult flea on the dog. It will not get rid of eggs or larvae. Your vacuuming and the DE should take care of that. So should the s-methoprene in the Frontline but sounds like its not working. I've had good luck with pyriproxifen as an insect growth regulator versus the s-methoprene. Since the pyriproxifen lasts up to 4 months in the dogs skin, every 4th month you could substitute a product that has that (either advantage II or vetguard plus). If you use the Vetguard plus, it has permethrin which has excellent tick protection but so so adult flea protection, you would want to go back to a fipronil product aout 3 weeks later. |

| Like Amy has said, Capstar will kill any fleas on them for I think up to 7 or 8 hours, after that your depending on your Frontline. Last year I had to do Capstar on my two just so they could sleep. Absolutely nothing was working, not the topical, the D.E, nor the constant vacuuming. This year I had to go the chewable route and not a flea since.
Flea season should be winding down (if we'd stop having warm weather!) so hopefully you can get thru it and just get an early start next year on your flea defense. Good luck to you! Fleas suck, literally. |
