2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.

Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Liver Shunts Empty
PostSubject: Liver Shunts   Liver Shunts EmptyThu Mar 13, 2014 1:53 am

Hi everyone,
We are having some troubling times here at home. Loki is going to be tested tomorrow for a liver shunt. He has lost nearly all mobility functions and is extremely lethargic. The things I have found to read online have been nothing but saddening. Looking for any info/ stories for some guidance and/or hope.

Thank you all,
Scott

I'm so sorry to hear about this with Loki. I'm not experienced with this at all, but I really wish you both the best. I hope he can recover and live a normal life.

I don't have any experience with this either, but I'm hoping for the best for you and Loki.

So sorry to hear about Loki. I hope they find out what is wrong with him and are able to help him.

I did find this article. I hope it gives you some insight.

thank you ll for the support. Waiting for one test to get back. If it comes back negative for liver shunts there is the possibility of Alaskan Husky Encephalopathy. This would be worse than the liver shunts unfortunately, so no I just dont know what to do but pray. Thank you all.

Hey Scott. I'm so sorry to hear about your Loki, and I totally understand sitting there and praying for the lesser of evils. We've been through hell and back with our Shadow who has canine hydrocephalus. If it is a shunt, I knew of some folks on a Cocker Spaniel forum I kept up with for a while, and they had a female who actually recovered from it. Keep up with the research, and I'll see what I can dig up as well. Have you gotten answers yet? I'm on a business trip right now and a bit slow to respond to stuff, but I'll see if I can't find the thread on that Cocker forum tonight.

Thank you for all the help and prayers. We finally got word back from our vet today that it is not a shunt. His liver is functioning perfectly. Now it seems to just be a waiting game and mutliple tests to see what may help him bounce back.
