I have a 9 yr old Siberian husky named Sheba. I had her since she was a 5 month old pup. About 4 days ago we noticed she was passing a lot of blood in her urine and it was not tinted pink but red. She wasn't showing any signs of pain and she still had a healthy appetite. Yesterday we took her to the Banfield vet clinic and they ran tests on her plus several x-rays. She did have a UTI and prescribed antibiotics for her; Clavamox 375 mg 2 x a day. The x-rays showed no signs of stones or crystals in her kidney or bladder. Also, he right kidney was larger than her left which gave the vet concern. The vet is going to schedule an ultrasound to see if the ultrasound can pick up anything the x-rays missed as well as abiopsy of the kidney to check for cancer. When she said the 'C' word my heart sank   . Anyone had any issues like this with their huskies? Thanks for your input.

Not a husky, but my lab had blood in urine (drops of blood I found). After antibiotics it was all better. Sounds like she has a bad infection and that can cause kidney issues as well. I would just be hopeful the vet is just following up to ensure nothing else is going on.

Yeah, the vet is scheduling an ultrasound and possibly a biopsy this week. Got Sheba on Antibiotics right now. We're just keeping a close watch on her.

One kidney is usually slightly larger than the other. If it is noticeably larger via x-Ray, it would be a concern. You might want to discuss with your vet if the UTI could cause inflammation and enlargement of the one kidney. Best of luck. Hope everything clears up quickly.
