| Subject: Worms!! What to expect? Wed Oct 02, 2013 8:48 am | |
So took Django to the vet yesterday. And he is a big boy a whooping 33.2 pounds at 13 weeks. He was very healthy but they sent us home to get a fecal because his records that I got show that he was never dewormed. We get home and little man poops and sure enough there are 2 worms in it, dead. (I gave him heartguard that morning so wondering if it killed a few). So I scoop up the poop and bagged the worms and go back to my vet immediately. Give them the poop and show them the worms and got a 3 day dewormer on the spot. So my question is, what fun am I in for? Are there going to piles of dead worms coming out of him? He has some pretty runny poo. Any advice, horror stories, or support would be appreciated. I have never dealt with worms before so not sure what to expect.

I've had to deworm Mishka twice now (this dog eats everything he can off the ground) and never had a bad experience. Mishka's poop softened a bit but if they're bad enough in him, you'll probably see lots of dead worms in his poo. Which that in itself is just freaky. Lol. _________________

Kye has been dewormed twice and has had the runs off and on since we got him. I worry he still has them. Yes you will see worms, and if your vet didn't tell you, make sure you pick up each time and keep Loki away from his poo to avoid... re-ingestion. best of luck.

I went through the same thing when Dizzy was around his age, and honestly its not as horrible as you might expect but it did give me the heebie jeebies. I'm not sure what type of worms Django has, but the ones that came out of Dizzy were long, white, and skinny. Spaghetti like. Some were alive (yeah, icky, they were squirming), and some weren't but overall it was only about 1-2 days for them to clear out. The heart guard pill probably got most of them anyway, which is exactly what happened with Dizzy. For me, it just made me wanna wash my hands 20 times a day, and of course gave me the creepy crawlies. Honestly though, it was way less horrifying than I expected.
