My husky isn't eating well? Empty
PostSubject: My husky isn't eating well?   My husky isn't eating well? EmptyMon Jul 29, 2013 2:28 am

He's only about to turn 8 months old, he has an infection on his private area (which is being vet checked)
Otherwise he isn't eating as much as he used to, he sometimes only eats once a day, he doesn't even eat home food like he used to, he hesitates to eat raw meat. He hesitates a lot basically to eat anything! He doesn't drink as much water.
Also he got tired after a mile of walking today, but mainly I try to end up doing 4 miles at the end of the day.
Is it over reacting to say he's a very unhealthy pup?

Where are you located? What's the temperature like there? A lot of dogs eat less and run out of steam faster if its warm/hot out. How long does it normally take you to do 4 miles? When you say he was tired how was he acting, did he seem like he was in pain? How long have you been walking four miles with him, weeks, months? I think a little more info would help. Smile I don't want to jump to any conclusions since it could be a lot of things.

We live in WI, it stays around 20c now, it's not too bad. I understand how he may eat less because of the hot weather. He has an infection which could be the reason he doesn't want to eat. He gets tired, not so much in pain, he just falls asleep after 1 mile in the day. We go for another walk in the evening for 2 miles, and we play around a lot at night then we do a walk before bed. He's started his meds again today which is showing good signs, but he still isn't even eating. He's played a lot at the dog park today, came home and played, but still didn't eat...I think he's just being picky and trying to wait for something better? what about you?

Some of them do that for sure, so it could be that. Is his weight okay? I wouldn't worry too much about it unless he starts to lose weight and get too skinny. A lot of huskies eat less than other dogs and self regulate their food. The other thing is that it sounds like you might be over exercising him. It can cause later joint and health problems if you exercise them too much as puppies, their growth plates haven't closed yet and it can cause serious damage. Also, since he has an infection its probably a good idea to keep him away from the dog park. Not only for his health, but to be considerate of the other dogs as well. I would be annoyed if I knew someone brought a dog to the park with an infection. Is he still pooping? How long has it been since he ate? Is he drinking water and peeing normally?
