Colorado state flower the columbine, its a great take over your garden flower as it just drops the seeds and spreads

Jenn's Gardening Thread-2012 - Page 2 IMG_20120420_082033
first flower back in my shade corner, also think some hostas are coming back.

Before, start of this year, the area was still full of river rock and overgrown weeds

After this weekend of working on it, now for flagstone, dirt and plants!

we are thinking about planting it in that new bed along the side of the house (pis above), doing a row of them. seems like a good option for an area i don't want to water (house/foundation)
they say they are zone 5 -20 but i know all to well that for me it does not matter if they are rated for our area they might not come back and at $10 a pop at HD i want to be sure.

WAY pretty!
Mil sent us an orchid plant for our anniversary one year since we got married in Hawaii and it didn't make it. Sad

Gorgeous! You certainly do have a green thumb. Probably 90% of my clearance plants make a full recovery.

I think i will have plenty this yr to share! i planted 3 this year and if i can keep sierra from digging them all up we should be good. freaking girl dug out one of my blooming pumpkin plants this morning Evil or Very Mad gonna kill her! guess i need to build a fence tonight....

Val, i buy a yard of biocomp dirt from a local stone/much/dirt yard (it fills the bed of kens truck!) and all the veggies are organic, i dont use anything on them, and use natural cider mulch. crossing my fingers for a good crop this year, i want to test if the dirt from last year produces as well as the new dirt for the size of the plants and the veggies.

Giant zuchs are easy, just leave on the plant for 2-3 extra days. Amazes me sometimes how I could miss a 18" zucchini on the vine. I had great luck with them last year as I beat the beetles from invading.

I KNOW! i will look everyday and then its like HOW THE HELL did i miss YOU giant zucchini! i did not bother with the yellow squash this yr as i only got 1 last yr. trying peppers for a 2nd time as they will not be in the same bed as the zuchs and maybe they will have a chance to grow. im excited and hope all my seeds to plants to garden bed make it this yr as i was a but wiser then i was last.

I have never seen a colombine before, I didnt know of that flower at all but it looks gorgeous. Is it a bush or climber? if it climbs like clematis and honeysuckle i am SOLD.

Chris, its Colorado's state flower Smile not a bush or a climber but a spreader, it reseeds its self every year and takes over, its a spring bloomer. i would say they get between a foot or a foot and a half high, and any where from half a foot to a foot wide. lots of colors to pick
