| After reading about Emily's mountain lion, hubby and I were chatting, he asked questions, I asked Google... Then somehow bobcats came up, learned they are returning to finish lakes as farmland is reverting to forest. Question artist .. how big is a bobcat, are they a threat to dogs generally and siberian huskies specifically. I ran across this post to someone who was wondering about his farm Collie's ability to protect his chickens from a bobcat. Here is one of the answers:
"Years ago we had a Siberian husky that killed a bobcat but knowing that dog I would expect she did it by sneakiness and I would never recommend a Siberian husky as a protection dog as it would kill your livestock before protecting them."
I dunno... Just made me giggle... |

| @amymeme The bobcats I've seen "in person" are about twice the size of a housecat but have about four times the attitude. In any kind of fight, I wouldn't put many dogs against a bobcat - dogs wouldn't have much of a chance. It doesn't surprise me that Sibes have the reputation of killing smaller game (like chickens) but I think most self respecting Sibes - especially if they were on their own - would rather make a hasty retreat. _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |

| I dunno... Ami has taken on a bull and a bear. Much to my horror. Both animals got the hell out of dodge. Also, sad the guy said, Ami is cunning. He waits quietly and pounces from behind, breaking the neck of his prey. My first girl, Sasha, did the same. Not that I want to find out, just that Ami is outside quite a bit. |

| We have bobcats and lynx. Both tend to leave dogs alone although small dogs have been targeted. A really big bobcat can weigh 40 lbs and take out small deer. Cat hunting tactics with the exception of big cats and mtn lions is not suited for something thay could fight back. They are 1 strike killers. They could kill a husky its just unlikely one would tangle with a dog. There are things its better to not find out.
I had the idiot dog that challenged a wolverine, luckily my air gun scared it off. One advantage to having a dog that you go out of the way to avoid other dogs is you go little visited places and see lots of wildlife. Squirt also had a stand off with a bison that was loose and walking down the main st of del norte. Now squirt does not do the sneaky type thing. Squirt actually goes at it in a way that the animal doesnt see her as a threat and then she attacks. Several cows and sheep have died because of her and so did a pitbull, both our cats, and countless smaller things.
Below mtn lions one of the most dangerous animals we have is......drum roll please.... big horn sheep. |

| I had a hunting dog attacked by a bobcat when I was little. It took 52 stitches to put the dog back together but she lived. The groundhog though did get one of our earlier cattle dogs killed when it was foolish enough to dive into its den. _________________ |
