Forum Rules
1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect.
2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule.

Changing a puppies sleep schedule Empty
PostSubject: Changing a puppies sleep schedule    Changing a puppies sleep schedule EmptySat Feb 20, 2016 5:13 am

I am trying to get my new puppy molly to stay up later so she will sleep in later and stop waking me up early in the morning (I go to work at 4:30 pm so 8 am Is basically the middle of the night for me

I'm aiming for around 4-4:30 am being bedtime but it's hard to keep her up she usually wont stay up past 2 am, does anyone else working an unusual shift have any experience on trying to make your dogs sleep schedule match yours?

I don't think that you will be able to get her to conform to your sleep schedule. Dogs are not nocturnal, and even if you got her to swap it up a bit she will still wake you up at night! I have a 9 week old puppy and we get up at least once every night.

You are trying to break her circadian rhythm which is a biological process. People can do it if given strong enough reason to but convincing a dog to do it when their only reason to do so is you is not going to be easy. Baby steps, keeping her up a little later each night until you get closer to the time you desire, but she has to see daylight some. It isn't healthy for them to live their lives at night. It's not healthy for us to live our lives at night. As she gets older it will be easier to conform her to this unnatural state of awake but getting someone to take her out during the day to see the sun, to get socialized with other dogs will be better for you and her. A cat would have really fit your schedule better if this is a long term setup.
