| Yeah. I totally understand. My pup used to do that too and it is REALLY annoying. The thing that worked for us (most of the time) was for me to always have cheese or some high value treat. When he would start that, I'd pull out the cheese and ask him to sit, then heel, then sit, and he would usually forget. Another thing that helped was to have a toy with me, something we could play tug with so it gave him something else to bite other than me. If none of the above were working, I'd do one of 3 things. 1. pull him up right next to me and then hold his leash close to his collar and put upwards pressure on the leash so he really didn't have room or balance to bite and jump and go straight home without a word to him and no chances to sniff or do anything fun (i called it 'leash time out'). 2. Diz was still a pipsqueak at that age, so sometimes I'd just pick up his bratty butt and carry him home, usually he'd be biting my shoulder when I did this but I dealt with it, because i wanted him to learn that being a brat didn't get him what he wanted. 3. I did this once and it was pretty effective. He was having a huge fit and just would not stop. I tied him to a light pole and walked away. I went around the corner and stood there and took a few deep breaths while he was hyena yipping and freaking out. When I got myself together and went back he was SO happy to see me and wouldn't take his eyes off me the whole way home ha ha.
Also keep in mind, just be very patient, but gently firm. He will outgrow this stuff if you are. Don't look at it as a challenge to you, look at it as a toddler having a temper tantrum. |

Love the "bratty butt and carry him home"...unfortunately, when my fluffy butt gets bratty, carrying him home is not an option at 60 pounds Even hauling him home by the leash is not an option... It doesn't happen very often, but sometimes, when there's a whole lot of snow and thus not a lot of rodents to pounce on or smells to investigate, he gets "playful" - usually, we'll be walking along and he'll start to slow down...then gets behind me...then, suddenly, the leash pulls taut. Look around and the Big Boy has the leash in his mouth, ready for a game of tuggie. I swear, he even has an impish gleam in his eye. Very hard not to laugh. Since this is the very nice Rok Leash given to me by a friend, I do not want to play tuggie. We then dance around, he jumps up, does the teeny tiny nippy thing on my shoulders, tries to eat my shoe laces. Or lays down in the middle of the road for a belly scratch...I used to use treats to lure him but he's become wise...So now, I do just as Jen does only I call it running close hauled (as in sailing headed up to the max). The Rok has a traffic handle close to the shackle, this puts him in standard "heel" configuration, and settles him down. I think he's even come to understand the word "close-hauled". There is light at the end of the tunnel, though. In the last couple of weeks Mr. Dog has been super on leash - trots along, keeps loose leash, if he goes Pogo Stick into the ditch, he seems to know the limits of his line (cobble together leashes for about 11 ft') and respects them. I'm not sure how it happened but at the moment, is very pleasant walking. |

| Ha ha, I couldn't do it now that he's pushing 50 lbs, but I think at 5 months he was around 25 lbs., much more doable. |

Yeah - same thing happens with kiddies - they get to big and you can't carry them anymore. The kiddies complain more, though |

| Yea his 5 months but he is a beast he is almost as big as the 3 year old husky around the the block , i do carry him when its to much handle but at his size now that wont last long and 99% of the time he does it because i don't let him go where he wants. |
