I was wondering if anyone here uses a dehydrator to make treats for their pups? I need high value treats for rally-o with Orion and he really only loves liver treats and cheese. Cheese (and any dairy) gives him the runs something chronic and decent liver treats are nearly 20 dollars a bag... So I pulled out the dehydrator last night and sliced up a whole lot of raw liver to see how it would go, so far it absolutely stinks but seems to be working well Is there anything else that would be good to try? What are your dogs favorites?

We make our own beef and deer jerky in our dehydrator all the time. Yummy for us and the dogs. We just don't spice the batch for the dogs. _________________

In May I bought a dehydrator for the dogs. I tried the liver and dehydrated myself out of the house. So it went into the garage and we still smelled it in the house. Might try to do it outside next spring. However I buy sweet potatoes and apples all the time and dehydrate them all the time mine love that. I have done strawberries and kiwi and some dogs think those are too sweet some love. I have also done bananas, peach, nectarine, papaya and mango YUM. I took a bunch for after a hike with other dogs and it was a toss up on each item there seemed to be one dog that did not like that items however in general it was a big hit. I keep a gallon baggie of dehydrated in the fridge at all times. I even used it for my self with dehydrating peppers and herbs from the garden this year! It was worth it!

Ours love it. I usually just out a batch in overnight and ignore the smell. Lol

well I've just come back from class and even though the house reeks it was totally worth it! It would seem freshly dehydrated liver is Orion's kryptonite I kid you not over the last hour he executed a flawless rally-o course, his obedience commands were "competition standard" according to our tutor and he ran an agility course off lead on an open field with other dogs round while paying strict attention to me with better recall than any other dog tonight! All for a few measly pieces of stinky liver!! Time to start dehydrating other things Colleen do you cook the sweet potato first? He adores banana so I will definitely do that too! Can I dehydrate other organs? Is it ok to use the dehydrated organ treats as their quota for raw?
