Arya is being very selective of what raw food she is eating, basically she just wants chicken and will often sniff other meal foods and walk away. She was great when we started feeding first and alway finished her meals, Logan eats everything and if given the chance will eat Arya's snubbed meals.

has anyone had similar experience and found a solution other than taking up the food a presenting it again at the next meal time? I know searing would help but that would be come very tome consuming.

we feed the following so theres reasonably good variety in the diet, could maybe do with more organ

chicken legs
chicken backs
heerring & mackerel (whole)
minced tripe (dirty green)
beef mince
venison mince
lamb mince
beef/chicken/lamb liver
lamb kidney
beef heart (chunks)

We had this similar thread: Titus has something against red meat! How to get him to eat?

Searing, mixing with foods he will eat, or a topper would be my only other suggestions besides tough love which is always my first choice. Searing is not time consuming at all, it literally takes just a few seconds. Just warm up a pan, drop the meat in for a few seconds and done, that's it. Some people have luck sprinkling something like parmesan cheese over the meat, but the problem with toppers is a lot of dogs just lick it off and walk away. I like searing if tough love isn't your thing. Plus you sear the meat a little less each time so that eventually they will eat it raw.

Val, how long would it be safe to use tough love for, She seems to be holding out for the chicken as the foods she is not eating now she had no problem eating before. I tried searing some of the food and that didn't seem to work, unless the offal in the meat is putting her off.

Where is the meat from? Have you washed the meat? My dogs won't eat grocery store meat unless its rinsed first.

A healthy dog won't starve itself and when I do the tough love thing I don't give in at all. So it's up to the dog how long they go without. I don't set time limits because if I give in at any point, they will learn that they can get what they want if they hold out long enough which is the opposite of what you are trying to accomplish. The longest any of mine have held out was 3 days, and that was with seared meat AND parmesan cheese topping it.

agreed with huskyluv here,

My little girl refused to eat more than two meals a week for over a month, but I stuck to the rules and we both came out the better for it.

Basically, put the food down at meal time, leave it for 15 minutes, and pick it up, wrap it, fridge it, and put it down for the next meal. Don't worry about it spoiling it will be fine for the husky to eat long after it starts smelling up the place.

After my little battle of wills with my husky she now knows that her food remains her food until she eats it, and then she will get something different for the next meal, and in my book that's the only way to deal with a fussy eater. If you give up, or give in your husky will OWN YOU for life, and know how to make you do what it wants.

Be strong, survive it, and enjoy.

EDIT: Huskies won't starve to death, they will eat when they are hungry. But watch the energy levels also, if it starts becoming lazy or lethargic, adopt a different stance or possibly consult a vet. Otherwise stick to your guns and don't give an inch.
