| Jenna is driving me nuts. I've had her since October and we have progressed a LOT through the months. It's been almost five months and she went from having no training to knowing her basic commands, proper manners, walking on a leash decently, ignoring her prey drive, and doesn't potty in her crate anymore.
However, there is still one more thing that I just CANNOT get her over.
Whining and screaming in the crate.
Now, she LOVES her crate. She will go in there voluntarily. She actually gets UPSET if we move it or close it where she can't get in. She's perfectly fine if it's daytime in the crate. The problem is at night. When we lay down for bed, she gets locked in her cage at night in the living room and we go to the bedroom to sleep. She's good for about two hours, and at every hour on the hour after that, she will start whining/barking/screaming to wake us up. At first I thought it was part of the potty training, but now it's just... I don't even know why. I've tried moving her into the bedroom with us. She still does it. It doesn't matter if she was exhausted during the day or not. Come 1 or 2 in the morning she's barking for us. She can't stay out of her crate because she gets destructive. This has been an ongoing issue for almost five months and the boyfriend (and I) are really just getting tired of it. We both work 50 hours a week. We need all the sleep we can get. We finally got her to stop screaming when we left the house, but I just CAN'T get her to stop this barking at night. I've tried positive and negative reinforcement. She just doesn't care. I can't even think of WHY she feels the need to bark like this.
Any advice, opinions or tips would be greatly appreciated. She's a rescue, and I'm really trying to cater to her neglect/abusive background, but there is only so much special treatment she can get before a line is drawn. I know rescues take time. I just wish I knew WHY she feels the need to do this screaming/barking at night. |

| Is it possible to pen her up somewhere where she can't get into things? Odin is like this too if he's kenneled at night and I just started locking him up in the laundry room. _________________ Force Free Training ThreadCheyenne, Mishka, Mickey, Rodeo, & Odin Are you a Husky owner in South Florida?! | I've tried that. I've locked her up in the bathroom before after having taken out everything I thought she could possibly get into. She somehow managed to turn on the shower and the sink and pulled down the shower curtain by the time I woke up around 6am. |

| How much exercise is she getting? Destruction and anxiety are commonly caused by lack of exercise. A "lazy day" for my husky is 2 hours of strenuous exercise and brain challenges. I'm a firm believer all dogs can adapt, but only so much, and only those who are willing.
Cooter is similar - loves his crate.. unless he door is locked/closed and he can't get out. He will willingly sleep in it, provided he can leave when he wants. We don't crate him at night though - we just close our bedroom door and he sleeps in the bedroom with us.. idea? |

| How often do you just let her scream her head off without going to correct it? I usually use tough love on dogs like that. She was a puppy, but Siku screamed her little head off the first few nights we had her (we crated her in a different room). We just got ear plugs and let her cry it out. Took a few nights, but now she's perfectly fine. Might work for yours if you can stand a few sleepless nights or find a good pair of ear plugs! _________________ -Sara |

| Had the same problem with Kody. He was fine during the day, but at night he would wake up every 2hrs whining. One day I just locked him in the bedroom with us and Mya and he went right to sleep. Problem solved. No destruction at night. Now if I would have left him un-crated during the day... |
