Ok so heres the gist of my problem. My 9 month old female husky ( not fixed ) will whimper the moment she is put in her cage. she crys and shakes and once you are out of sight she will bark, howl, and rip everything to shreds that is within the crate and close enough to it for her to reach. She bends the metal bars with her face trying to force her way out. She claws at the door as though she is going to die.

I realise this is seperation anxiety and I have been working on it for months now. I put her in the crate in the same room as me away from everything where she can see me, within 10 feet. she still crys, non stop. i put her in there for only about 10-20 minutes. She whimpers constantly no matter what i do. Squirt bottle does nothing, ignoring her does nothing, trying to calm her down and pretend its not a big deal , reassuring her etc. everything has failed. Im pretty to give her doggy prozac.

She tore up the army poncho liner i used ontop of her crate to make it darker. She not only destroyed it but tore it into tiny tiny pieces and ate a portion of it. Chunks of the liner were stuck in her teeth and i had to pull them free. The second time she was left home alone that week i went to a movie, nothing more. It was a 2 hour movie, I immediatly returned home. to find she had gotten out. She pooped alover the house and pissed allover the rug. She was let out to the bathroom many times that day and right before we left.

Not only did she do this but she also ripped up the blinds that were covering the window so that she could see outside. She chewed them into an obivion. When i went to inspect the crate i saw she had clawed her way free. unhinging the cage at the corner and collapsed the front of it. There are now rock climbing D rings on there so this cannot happen again.

I am at the end of my rope with this dog. I love her to death but i live in an apartment and she either needs to learn to stop barking and destroying things, or she is gonna go.

She is strongly bonded to me but too much so. she has to be touching me at all times. IF i go to the bathroom she follows me. I shut her out and she puts her nose under the door and crys. At night she used to sleep with me, now i make her sleep off the bed on the floor and she crys about that too but not so much anymore. She will be sleeping in her crate tonight near the bed.

I feel guilty and bad because the things she has destroyed were my bfs not mine. I am staying with him in his apartment right now and did not think the dog would be this much trouble. We have been here 3 weeks now.

The dog cant seem to be alone at all for any period of time, she has to be literally at my side all day and night.

What on earth can I do to break her of this habit. I have tried ignoring her and rewarding good behavior. She acts as though i have left her for dead when i go to get the mail.

Also i forgot to mention. She gets a lot of exercise.. i took this photo today after a run. Shes not in the best shape for a husky i dont think! Lol i took her for a 1 mile run on my roller blades and she was lagging behind panting most of the way. this is a daily or even bi daily event for the most part

I'm also having the problems with the barking/crying/chewing at the bars, when even I'm right next to the crate.
I live in an appartment also, my neighbors thought i was torturing an animal from the noises he makes
He is attached to my hip I swear.

I'll be watching this topic. ^^

shes been in her crate now over 40 minutes. I have the crate directly behind me so that she can see what i am doing but not see my face. she is quiet and behaved. I am gonna let her out and give her a treat in hopes she makes a connection.

well its been about 2 weeks or so. Nothing has changed. She still crys ( softly ) through the night, keeping me awake and wits end. And crying her eyes out to the point you think she might die when i leave the house or even the room. I don't get good sleep ever. I feel like i have a new born baby.. Maybe getting a husky was a mistake. I can't even be in a seperare room without her crying. If she can't see me she crys and barks and drools alover herself. She overheats and shakes and makes a scene.

It's getting incredably old and ive almost gone as far as whiping her with her leash when she does this and have to stop myself. I however have come to scream at her at night because nothing sooths her. She crys and crys and crys. I take her out to see fi she has to go to the bathroom. The second i let her out of hte crate i have to chase her down throu the house. She sprints away in an attempt to evade going back into her kennel.

I dont understand what her damn problem is. Aside from this she is an obediant dog and sits, laydown, stay etc every time i tell her when i tell her. At this point id rather her be afraid of me and not be attached to me so i can atleast sleep. I havent slept yet tonight and its normal for me to not get to sleep until about 7 am because of this stupid dog.

Screaming and hitting her isn't going to solve anything, it will make it worse. It sounds like she associates the crate with being in trouble. It needs to be a positive place for her to go. And it also seems like she needs some training and structure.

Both of mind had SA, but slowly they got better. I always gave them treats for going in their crate and never made a big deal coming back. I also gave them some indestructible toys like a Kong filled with peanut butter while they are in their crate. I also made sure that they had a good walk and they are tired when I put them in their crate.

Before it gets too bad I would consult a professional trainer.

I do not know if this will help or you agree with certain treats. However, my 4 1/2 old did not likes his crate either. I started easy. For example, after we ran hard outside with ball playing and lots of praise and petting, I put him in the crate for exactly 2 minutes with a small treat-always meat like liver treats.

Then I would put him in through out the day for 15 minute intervals, this time with bully bone or a pigs ear.

All in all it takes some patience and really tasty treats. But by doing this I made the crate the best damn place in the world with very yummy treats.

Hope this helps you. I also was very frustrated but figured out every time I was stressed he was tripple stressed.

well its march now I was unable to solve the problem with my husky without... infact getting another one... most ppl would say omg why...

thing is. she is always lonely and this way shes never alone. when we leave we put them together and the 2 of them will actually shut the heck up and keep eachother company. Playing is a lot easier too now. I have a cat and though the cat loves playign with the dog. Sometimes the dog gets a little rough leaving the kitty a drooly mess...ew and i get worried sometimes that she might suddenly decide to bite down hard.

Ill get a video and upload it later thy are so cute playing. The cat meows and lays on his back and goes at the dog with all 4 legs. the dog loves knowing the cat is willing to play and they take turns chasing eachother around the apartment. So now with our New addition Femi they will beable to get a good run back home on the 200 acers together.
