Hey all!
I'm sure some of you can relate to this issue but my 4 month old inhales his food. Seriously, takes him all of 10 seconds to eat! We feed him 3 times a day but he still swallows his food. I am going to buy a slow feed bowl. Anyone here have the KONG slow feed bowl and if so, does it help? Thanks! Smile Smile

I don't have the Kong bowl but I do have a kyjen slow bowl and it has done wonders for slowing down my shepherd mix. It is setup a bit different from the Kong bowl. Hopefully if someone has the Kong version they will chime in, but from looking at pictures of the Kong it looks like you could sit a coffee cup in the middle of your current bowl, filling the food around it, and achieve similar enough design to test how your pup will take to the Kong style before buying. If eating around the coffee cup works then the Kong will probably work. If it doesn't work then you may want to look at something like the kyjen with its narrower slots.

I totally understand what you are saying...I have no experience with the Kong bowl that you are taking about but like @Twisterll I also use the Kyjen slow bowls with my boy (the small sized ones) and I say bowls cause I have three of them. The orange swirly one, Minty green one, and the purple flower looking one. Anyway I've been having my boy on the slow bowl since a little puppy and he will finish up his half cup in about 5 minutes at least.
I tried a regular bowl on his 1st birthday a few months ago but he was still eating a bit too fast..so more slow bowl for Mylo.

I wish my slow feeder worked for Sofie. I too have the same as Dave, the orange one, and Sofie thinks it's a game, goes in circles eating, and still inhaled her food. Ugh, this little girl just will not chew her food.

Hey @amymeme, I'm in Houston near the downtown area. The sky is all grey and super windy starting to sprinkle a bit. Besides that all is good

Hope all you guys are bracing the weather well. I heard there are some pretty bad storms all around! Crazy winter so far huh? I'm in south carolina now and it's been 70's and very humid lately. As far as the slow feed bowl. I hear Kyjen makes a good one too but Petsmart doesn't carry it, only the Kong puzzle bowl which is very similar to the Kyjen. I will give the Kong one a try. My worry is, I have a feeling my puppy might get so antsy to get at his food that he will tip the bowl over lol.

The slow bowl worked for a while with us, but he got the hang of it eventually. Another method that we use is the kong wobbler toy. It's weighted at the bottom and they have it move it around and tip it with their nose to get kibble/treats to fall out. That takes him at least 5 mins to get his food.

I use the Kyjen version too-it's different from others-the kibbles kind of fall through a maze so the dog has to be very deliberate when eating.

We have this one.

Well, good news! Bought a Kong slow feed bowl and it now takes my puppy a good 4-5 minutes to finish 1/2 cup of kibble (before it was less than 10 seconds flat). Hopefully he will learn to NOT inhale his food!
