Today when I took Dakota outside to go potty and play for awhile, we ran in to another Husky! It was a white female with pretty blue eyes. Dakota approached as soon as I told him it was okay and to go ahead. The owner said she was friendly but a little shy. I said "that's quite alright. Dakota is still a pup so he's a little shy too!" Dakota went over to sniff the Husky named Princess. As soon as he did, this Husky got really scared. It ran a few feet and just sat down and stared off in to space. Dakota kept sniffing and touched Princess with his paw. She just remained still and extremely frightened with her tail tucked. Then when she got her chance she turned her back and ran off, still with her tail tucked and head down. Dakota was SO confused haha. It's the first dog he's met that's ignored him and acted that way. Princess was SUPER skinny and so scared that I felt so bad for her.

Anyways, it just upsets me because it seemed to me that the owner has never let his gorgeous Husky experience other dogs. Huskies are hyper little gifts from God that need excercise, socialization, and lots of care. It saddened me to see something so skinny and scared of something as small and calm as Dakota was. Of course, sometimes dogs are not socialized very well before the owner picks it up (from a shelter or breeder), but they have had this dog since she was a puppy like Dakota. I don't think the owner even took the time to understand and research before deciding to get a Husky. Just had to vent a little! Haha thanks for reading the "Sad Husky" topic lol!

I saw a husky at the dog park once who was very timid and scare but she came from a shelter. The owner said he had live the first 2 years of her life on the street.

That I understand but for someone not to socialize a Husky is not good.

We stop by Petsmart today and Blaze gave the employee that was clean up down on his knees a doggie kiss.

He tried to play was a very small dog and the owner was okay about it the small dog was not very sure about this big dog.

Yeah, I think shelters are definitely an exception. Kudos to anyone who rescues. I can't wait to do it myself and give a dog a better life!

Haha that sounds like Dakota (in relation to the small dog). He hasn't quite figured out big dogs yet. He tries to play with them, but is really intimidated lol. It's funny to watch him tryto play with the big dogs. Especially the 120 pound German Shepheard we saw at Petsmart a couple days ago haha.

I speak from experience when it comes to not socializing your dog from puppy hood. Totally guilty of that with Mya I will NEVER make that mistake again! She took the opposite route though and hates ALL dogs. With the exception of Kody and Brandy (my moms Golden). Thing is that both Kody and Brandy are VERY submissive towards Mya. She sets down the law and that's just the way it is. She plays with Kody, lays with him, gives him kisses at times, etc, BUT he has this respect for her. It's crazy. She's just a b**ch and I blame that on ourselves for the most part . While I know her personality is *special* and probably would have been that way anyway we definitely could have done something to nip in the butt before it got too bad. We never really socialized her as a pup and the few times that we did take her to the dog park I was too scared of the "bigger" dogs hurting her Big mistake!

Kody is a totally different story! He's been going to the dog park since we got him at 12 weeks and LOVES going to the meet ups and running with his fellow husky buddies! He's the sweetest, friendliest, and WHINY dog ever...lol!

Sometimes I don't think Cali was socialized very much because its like going to Vegas to see what she will do. Majority of the time she is great, a few times here and there she is aggressive towards them. I am slowly working on it. I take here to socialize everytime I can.

At least Mya has a dog she can play with! I live in an apartment right now because I'm still at OU. With that said, I understood EXACTLY what I was getting into when my girlfriend and I got Dakota. We play outside for about 15-20 mins three or four times a day, each time is followed by about a 30-45 minute play session inside (I'm sure the downstairs neighbors aren't happy about that haha). That guy living in an apartment with a Husky and no one else around to play with and not much outside playtime (first time I've seen this dog all year and they live one building away!) is just sad to me. I wish people would consider their lifestyles and willingness before getting a dog. Maybe I'm just judging! I feel like a jerk saying all this stuff!! I don't even know the guy! Haha don't worry everyone, I'm really not this mean!! . Maybe it's a different story, but it seems like it's not :/

That's really sad. I honestly think many people don't know how important it is to socialize a puppy, especially before 12 weeks or so. They need to meet as many dogs and other people as possible and be exposed to as many different situations as possible ... and if they're not, although you can still have a good dog, it will never be as calm as if it had been properly socialized. It seems like a big responsibility to me and that's why an adult rescue dog seems easier!!

If a puppy starts its life in a puppy mill, where it only sees a kennel, then you are off to a bad start and have a lot of extra socializing to do to make up for those first few weeks. It's another reason to make sure a puppy comes from a good breeder.

Delilah was a rescue and I got so lucky with her behavior. We took a huge risk bringing her in with the cats, but she loved them and then we went the dog park route as well. At first she ignored everyone but fellow huskies (she is a racist) but she still wouldn't engage in play with the huskies just running. She wouldn't stray far from me either, now, almost a year later, she won't go too far from me but she LOVES other dogs and she even has a few boyfriends.

Poor baby Everyone kept telling me Embry was going to end up like that even though I started bringing him to the dog park and puppy class at 5 months old.

To socialize a dog is one of the most importan things, but I would say that 90 percent do not socialize their dogs.
People are often wondering how friednly Anubis is, and I just think "this should be normal".
But besides of that a dog also has to learn to accept it when another dog does not want contact.

I agree Dennis. That's another reason why I was so proud of Dakota when he met this dog. He didn't try to jump on her, or play with her. He simply sniffed her and waited to see if she wanted to play or not. When she didn't and we started to walk away after she ran off, Dakota followed me and we went on with our business (usually he sits down and whines until the other dog disappears haha).

Dakota is a good boy, because fear can lead to aggression.
Anubis always wanted to convince every dog that he has to play with him when he wa syounger. Even when the other dog was aggressive right form the start, he was jus tlike hey why so mean let´s play
