| Subject: Stitches and saliva? Wed Aug 10, 2011 1:38 am | |
| I have heard a few mixed opinions about dogs licking stitches. Our vet strictly said not to let them lick but other area vets say the saliva will help her heal. Opinions guys? Maybe you can help me out here. |

| Awww you got a cone!!! Niko didn't get a cone (just got neutered yesterday, 8/9/11)! But the vet said if he's really picking at in incision site to put some Vick's Vapo-rub NEAR the stitches ("Not on the stiches, or you will be peeling him off the ceiling")... Hope that helps! He (again, he, so it's probably different for you) has all internal sutures, so there is nothing to pick at, just lick. And it looks like its healing well. Good luck and I hope someone has a better answer for you, but the way I'm looking at it is: if its healing well, and s/he isn't picking at it, then it should be fine... Was google any help? Good luck & love your signature!! |
