Six Month Update Empty
PostSubject: Six Month Update   Six Month Update EmptySat Jun 02, 2018 10:55 pm

This is an update on our rescue Husky, Lola, who joined our family six months ago. Much has happened during that time, all good.
Lola is our second Husky, and came to us after I had to put our wonderful 14 year old Husky to sleep due to bone cancer.
Lola came to us, apprehensive, but very willing to fit in. She was house broken, a counter surfer, and was very unsure of what was happening to her. You see, we are her fourth home in a year. People just have no idea how much attention, walking, playing, teaching, and loving these wonderful friends need.
Fortunately, I am retired, and spend all day catering to her. She will be two years old this July, so she is still a young girl. I got her weight up to 47 pounds, she filled in good, and no longer looks skinny.  We have also got her drinking plenty of water. It took a while, I don’t think she had access to all she needed, but she does now.
She has developed quite the personality now, has gotten very secure in her new home, and has boundless energy. We play a lot, take long walks, and I have just started letting her off leash in out back yard where she chases rodents, (chipmunks, squirrels and bugs) through the woods. I always watch where she is, and where she is heading. She is getting good at coming to me when I call her, of course when she’s ready.
She is an equal opportunity eater, bugs, twigs, leaves, poop, (not hers) I constantly have to watch her. I swear she could actually live off the land!
She knows her way around the woods, and which way home is after all the walks we take. I hate to say it, but walking her in the winter, snow and all considered, it’s the best time. We go for several miles through the woods on snow mobile trails.
This time of year, the woods are filled with nasty bugs abd ticks. I have had to stop going on the snow mobile trails and fields. We literally get covered with ticks. Then spend hours screening ourselves and Lola.
She is super people and dog friendly, so I take her every where they allow pets. Every weekend she goes shopping! She knows where we are going and gets excited to go into the pet store, hardware stores etc.
Some people said she has wolf or coyote in her, so I did a DNA test. She’s 62% Siberian Husky, 25% Canadian Eskimo dog, and 12% Swiss White Shepherd.
Over all she has become a fantastic companion, loving, willing to learn, bossy, (aren’t all Husky’s?). She is filling a large hole in our lives quite well.
She likes water, isn’t shy about getting wet. She likes water, isn’t shy about getting wet. Attached is a picture of her sitting on a boulder in the middle of a stream out back, watching a beaver and ducks. Today, she actually kind of dove into the pond! That called for a hosing down, and bath, but she survived.
All in all, I have to say the changes in Lola are wonderful. She is confident, loving, and wears that “husky smile” most of the time. It took a couple of months for that smile to come out. We are blessed with a wonderful friend.Six Month Update PbucketSix Month Update 20180511

What a great life Lola has!
Thank you for being her human.

I too am retired.
My son jokes that my job now is Bodhi.
He's right!
I spend lots more time with Bodhi than I did with my previous two huskies.
And that's OK with me.
