Swollen Bald Spot on Tail Empty

Hey all!

While at the dog park today me and my wife noticed this spot on Pino's tail. I have no idea how long it's been there, but it seems to have appeared suddenly because it's very easy to spot (especially with us walking him).

It seems blueish with some red spots. Definitely swollen and soft, however it doesn't seem to have any effect on him when I touch it. Here are a couple pics- any ideas?

Possibly a tick? Although I've never seen one, and don't know what'd it look like when it breaks off, just the suddenness of it and its location make me wonder if it's a tick. Others on here know ticks better, and can answer you better, but with it being the weekend and Easter, it probably won't be til tomorrow.

It does look like it has an open wound spot that could potentially be an embedded tick or just a bite of some kind. You might look into some benedryl cream and rub on it to see if you can get the swelling to go down in it. If you can get the swelling down it should be easier to tell if a tick is still tucked in there. Has he chewed at it any?

Thanks for the responses guys!

Looks the same after a few days. I'm not too worried because A) it's his tail and B) he seems totally unaffected by it (and he's a BABY when it comes to wounds).

We'll pick up some benedryl cream today and try to get the swelling down. I haven't noticed any chewing or even licking, which again seems kind of odd because whenever he's had any kind of external wound he's all over it.

Appreciate you all.

Christian........do what was suggested, but after the cream, if it hasn't gone away I would go to the vet. It could be a cyst or it could be a hot spot, and you would want to correct the problem if it is. Also, if it's a tick bite you will want to check for tick diseases, lyme is not something to let go for long.
