Hey all!

I wanted to know what you guys feed your husky puppies. The breeder sent us home with raw meat and said feed him 2 times a day with some kibble. He finished his raw and we have him on ACANA puppy kibble which the breeder feeds his dogs and my puppy loves it. He said feed twice a day so I feed a little over 1/2 a cup of ACANA in the morning, then another 0.5-06. cups at 4pm because he is hungry. It looks like he always wants more food so I give him a little at a time but Acana is pretty nutrient dense so I'm wondering if he should be eating 3 times a day. We weighed him on our scale and he's 13.8 lbs at 10 weeks. He's getting his second vaccine boosters this coming friday where he will be weighed. Any thoughts?

I think most puppies are fed 3x per day. What does the bag day for feeding that she?

The bag says 1 1/4 cup per day if they are about 11lbs-22lbs as puppies and will grow to about 20-25 kgs (44lbs-55lbs). so that's what he is being fed: 1 1/4 cups divided into 2 portions: AM and PM.

I would divide that into 3 feedings per day - at age 4 mos. my sons pup was still being fed 3x daily.

I started dividing yesterday into 3 portions but 1 1/4 cups into 3 times a day doesn't seem like a whole lot because he is always looking for more!! I plan on asking his vet this Friday when he goes in for his second vaccination and weigh in. Thanks though!

I was feeding my puppy 3 cups a day - 1.5 cups in the morning and evening. Puppies need more food and when they start to grow past the 5 month mark if when I cut back on feeding my boy. He now only gets 1.75 cups daily when we fed kibble exclusively. We feed partial raw so he only gets 1/2-3/4 of a cup of kibble a day now.

I agree, puppies require more, and sometimes the back of the package is just guidelines. I would try and increase to a half a cup 3 times a day, if he still needs more food at max I would do 1/2 cup 4 times a day. He may be burning more calories than he is consuming. As long as his poops stay firm with the increase of food, then he is doing fine.

I don't measure the amount of food Ghost gets (Orijen puppy kibble), however he does not eat more than 2 cups per day whatever happens. If I feed him something else on top, fine he loves it, but kibble no way - he just stops eating when he thinks it's enough. Sometimes I actually want him to eat more, but he's not interested unless I add some olive oil on top or something similar.

Guess my puppy is easy to deal with on this matter.

I have started the feedings 3 times a day. I am going to ask the vet if I can uptake his feeding because he is always hungry and looking for food plus he is very active. I don't know how much he weighs now at 10 weeks but we will get a real weight this Friday at the vet. We weighed him on our scale and we think he's about 14 lbs. How much did your puppies weigh at 10 weeks out of curiousity?

*I wish I had started a thread like this when Mylo was a younger pup cause I don't think I fed him enough now from what I'm reading here.. I assumed since it was an all life stage kibble that I was doing just fine following the guide on the bag. I don't remember exactly how much I fed him but I sure know it wasn't 2 cups of food a day. But then again when Mylo was 10 weeks old he was recovering from parvo at home and we were giving him some canned from from the vet. Then after a few weeks of that I think started the schedule that I've been doing all this time [half cup morning and 1 full cup dinner]

Sarah, A few helpful items for you....We have a thread on the forum, called The Weigh In, and people record their pups growth, so you can compare. My only example is of my current pup, although she is GSD she will weigh about the same as my husky Miya, at 9 weeks old Sofie weighed 11 pounds, she would be considered low weight. Vets, unfortunately, are not well schooled in feeding and nutrition. Going by my breeders standard, he recommended 2 cups a day of kibble spread out to 4 times a day. Pre 4 months of age, puppies need a lot of food, after 4 months you do want them to slow down a tiny bit in the growing department. Overall you want a lean dog. If he is a high energy dog, like my Sofie, they may not consume enough calories for the amount of energy they use. Many huskies, do indeed, regulate themselves, tho typically it's when they are fully grown. Adult huskies, and huskies say over 6 months old, will eat about 20-25% less than what is recommended on bags of kibble. Under 6 months they may require more than what is recommended on bags, and definitely pups under 4 months will. My suggestion is if his poops are solid, but he is still hungry with 1.5 cups a day, I would increase to 2 cups a day spread over 4 times in a day. I would not increase any more than the 2 cups a day, especially since he is eating a high quality food, and you probably do use treats for training. I hope this helps you out.

Thanks Renee! My previous husky was being fed Purina True instinct. I am so happy my current Shiloh is on Acana. He seems to love it, the breeder loves it and feeds it to all of his dogs. I have been splitting up 1 1/4cups into 3 portions per day and today I cooked some drumsticks and gave him a little bit of the meat with his kibble. The breeder told me that if I don't want to continue feeding raw, cooked chicken (without the bone of course) is fine. As I mentioned above, he has an appointment with his vet on Friday so I will get his weight. From what I have heard, husky puppies are notorious for always wanting more food! My previous husky was down to 1 meal a day in adulthood. Sadly, I don't remember his puppy years Crying or Very sad
