okay so it looks as if Cora is losing fur on her legs and where her chest meets her legs, I can basically see the pink.

Here is her normal leg Cora's Medical history Image_22

and here is the pink leg Cora's Medical history Image_24

If anyone knows if this is normal let me know, also if you think it is something to be really concerned about please tell me and I will go to the vet right away!!! Also Cora is a puppy she is 16 weeks old!

I would say take her to the vet when you get a chance. All the internet advice in the world can't replace a trained vet looking at her.

That said, I found this article: http://pets.webmd.com/dogs/dog-bald-spot

Do any of those seem like they could be the culprit?

Also is there an odor coming from it? When our old Weimaraner fell ill she got yeast infections on the back legs that were paralyzed (obvs. Cora isn't paralyzed, but she probably lays on that area). They were just kind of like pink, swollen patches.

As for smell they smell like the rest of her like that puppy smell nothing odd about the sent, as for the article none of it really fits, she isn't in pain (I rubbed the spots and she does not whine or move away from me) I am pretty sure she isn't licking or chewing at them, and the one on her front leg isn't really on a spot she lies on. I guess I am just freaking out she is also too young for a lot of the stuff in the article, Thank you for the advice she will be seeing a vet in the next week!, Also if anyone else has any ideas feel free to add! she is also on a flea and tick preventative as well as updated on all her shots including rabies!

Losing hair can be a symptom of a food allergy. I would definitely take her to the vet, but I would say that is what it is. What food do you feed her? I also will say I am not a vet, but I have heard that can be a symptom.

I feed her fresh market large puppy food. she also eats zukes treats and hotdogs during training sessions. I really hope its just an allergy and I can find out what it is that last thing I want is for her to have an infection or something! Thanks for the advice Tyler!

Cora's Medical history Empty
PostSubject: Re: Cora's Medical history   Cora's Medical history EmptyWed Aug 12, 2015 3:10 am

Démodétic Mange is caused by mites and is most commonly seen in puppies under 9 months, the symptoms are similar to Cora's. I read up on it and it seems that it's most often passed on by the mother during nursing.  It usually takes care of itself in a healthy puppy (the puppies own immune system takes care of it) but can be a problem if a puppies immune system is overly stressed, or underdeveloped, malnutrition is another that can cause it but I doubt that in Cora's case. Itching is not necessarily a symptom in all cases, especially in mild cases. . but hair loss on the front legs and a redness/reddishness seem to kinda fit Cora. Apparently it's not an emergency type situation at a mild stage so I would just see what the vet says when you both go in. It's not contagious between human and dogs, but can be between other dogs. When I looked at your pics, I did immediately think mites but ...I'm not a vet, haha, I'm just offering a "could be", my advice would just be don't stress (I know it's hard not too! Haha) and just wait to see what your vet says. I also seem to remember reading somewhere that puppies often have skin issues and stuff until their body *stabilizes* enough to function like it should. But Zoe, just try not to stress, I'm sure Cora will be fine, just keep that vet appointment. Update us please when you find out what it is.

Jimmy you were spot on I took Cora to the vet today (Really not a fan of this guy and I will be switching after her spay. Anyways he said that it is most likely Démodétic Mange, he said that it can not be cured since it is so common so he gave me a flea preventative that says it aids her type of Mange Cora's Medical history Image_25

But they are going to do a biopsy during her spay to make sure that it is demodetic mange. it has spread a little bit it is now above her right eye and a little spot on her paw so I am hoping her immune system and this treatment stuff will work.

speaking of her right eye, he said she is missing a third eye lid? I havent got a clue what that means and she has low pigment in that eye so since I told him that she gets a lot of discharge there he gave us this stuff Cora's Medical history Image_26

Anyways that's Cora's medical story so far. Also this vet think we don't need to have her spayed until February, but I told him I would like it sooner rather than later. He is very talk down ish, but my parents are currently paying Cora's bills so I wont switch her until I get a job, Which I have sent out many resume for so hopefully that's soon.

Atleast the vet didn't say it was just a hot spot Zoe, one of the articles I read said it often goes misdiagnosed as a hot spot. Anyways Zoe, the article did mention areas like the face too so it does really sound like this is the problem. Did the vet mention why he thinks Cora's immune system isn't stronger?

I have no idea on the third eye lid thing either, I've never personally heard of that before. Hopefully the meds he gave her will help with the discharge atleast Smile

Thanks for the update Zoe!

Well, if he'd named it correctly, I wouldn't have had to go look it up - it's the nicitating membrane (has nothing to do with tobacco, btw).  Many animals have one like it or very similar.  See this article.

And just because I'm being grouchy tonight - there's no way I'd have pegged that as a hot spot since every hot spot I've seen has been moist and most have been round (like ringworm). I'm only vaguely familiar with demodetic<sp> mange. I've heard of it but never seen it.
