dog slobbering in cage then becoming soaked Empty
PostSubject: dog slobbering in cage then becoming soaked   dog slobbering in cage then becoming soaked EmptyWed Dec 24, 2014 5:40 pm

when i leave the house i crate my husky and lately almost everytime i put her in there she comes out soaking wet from her own slobber, i can only assume shes out of breath because she is constantly trying to break out. Typically i put a kong toy with peanut butter in there and whether its there or not she still comes out wet. any suggestions on this? ive tried a shirt ive worn all day as well and that was torn to shreds, i figured maybe that would calm her down from trying to break out. anything i leave her with gets destroyed but i could do without the sopping wet dog everyday! thanks for any advice and help

Perhaps the crate is too warm. A wire crate might be cooler plus give her more to look at. Just a thought.

I agree with Amy, also, I haven't a clue on this, but this crate she has now seems small, perhaps a wire crate that is a little larger will make her happier, and less wet?

What is your routine with her being in the crate?  Morning when you're gone for work?  Do you exercise her prior to crate time?  If so, how long and at what pace?

If she has all this pent up energy to try to break out of a crate (which means my situation in my body right now completely sucks),  you can drain that energy prior to putting her in the crate and practice calming work as you get her in.

I think the shirt in the crate thing is overrated, as they can smell you throughout the house all the time and having a shirt inside the crate doesn't add much intensity of your presence to a dog. Since it ends up in shreds though, that is further evidence that she hates the situation in her body when she is in her crate.
