My bandit is 3 1/2 months old and she hasn't interacted with many dogs yet. The other dog is my brothers 2 1/2 yorkie poo. The play seems violent or maybe this is normal? Not once has either yelped or cried so I think it's okay

| Totally normal, if Ami and Archer are any benchmark...actually a little bit tame campared to 2 yr old Ami and 8 mo old Archer. Sometimes they play like one is large cat and the other is an antelope for dinner. Then they trade places. Not for the faint of heart |

| I'll almost agree with Amy, and I'll almost agree with your comment on the video. His play is completely normal for a Husky, since the yorkie doesn't back off too much it seems acceptable to her as well. What I question - you say that the Yorkie is 2 1/2 and I have a hard time with small dogs, year or month? If she's 2 1/2 years, she *will* put him in his place if she thinks he's getting too rough. If she's only 2 1/2 months then she'll tolerate his roughness up to a point, at which time she'll probably go to your brother.
Since it is just play, you might want to work on "easy" ( you don't want to interrupt the play, just don't tear the house down doing it) and "enough" (is just what it sounds like "stop, now!!") With a dog like a Husky, these are two commands they need to know and need to learn early on.
If the Yorkie really doesn't object by yelping or hiding I'd let them have fun .... _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |

| I did not see the magnet test done. Basically you pull both dogs apart and see if both willingly want to initiate play again by trying to go back to each other (like a magnet). If one does not, then they are not mutually playing. In a few cases, I saw the yorkie poo trying to walk away and the husky continuing to play. This is why I suggest the magnet test. What I noticed with my own shepherd mix who is a 60 lb plus dog is that she did not put Loki into place until about 10 months old. Until that time, there was cases when we would have to redirect him as she at times was overly tolerant. Given the size difference, I would keep an eye on it and try doing the magnet test when you are unsure. If the yorkie poo does not show interest in the husky puppy, then redirect the puppy to other types of play. |

| The husky will go directly for the yorkie everytime they are pulled away. The yorkie is a couch potatoe most of the time. Once the yorkie has had enough he will get rough and the husky knows to back off a bit. Neither have yelped or cried yet |

| That's the yorkie (him) teaching the Husky (her) good social skills. That's what should happen! Any dog, whether it's the older or the younger should be able to tell the other that they've had enough. The other will learn to accept that "good manners" mean to go away for awhile. As long as she give him the space he wants then you're fine. _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |
