ShedMonster De-Shedding tool Empty

Has anyone used this product before?

On our recent vacation I forgot to pack Dakota's usual brushes. So I made an emergency run to Walmart to see what they had so that I could brush the excess undercoat out. Walmart had 2 options a traditional shedding blade for $4 and the Oster ShedMonster de-shedding tool for $15.

I have heard enough recommendations over the years for pet stripper tools/brushes for effectively removing the undercoat on a husky, so I decided to give the ShedMonster a try. The ShedMonster is just another version of the pet stripper brush and it got great reviews on Amazon so I figured that I would absolutely love this new brush.

The product in question (this is the medium to long hair version but it also comes in a short hair version as well).

I get it home and eagerly try it out on Dakota and was instantly and completely deflated. The ShedMonster pulled out so little fur that I thought maybe I was using it wrong and tried as many different ways of brushing as I could logically come up with, but it was all to no avail. Any other brush I have at home easily pulls out way more undercoat than the ShedMonster could even come close to. To add insult to injury, so to speak, the ShedMonster was pulling out way too much top coat for me to be comfortable with. I know people complain about the Furminator cutting/breaking/damaging coat but I have used both and the ShedMonster is WAY worse on the top coat. I will say this, my sibe is not currently blowing coat, just the usual year round shedding, but that still is not an excuse. If I had used my slicker brush, undercoat rake, or Furminator instead of the ShedMonster I would have had a much larger pile of fur after brushing him out. In fact, I have never had a post-brushing fur pile so small EVER as I did with the ShedMonster.

Anyone else used it or something similar? Your results?

Right now I am just so disappointed that I am planning to just return it, I think I would have faired better with the $4 shedding blade. No

You'd probably have better luck with something like this:

Well, I guess that's a no. I would have preferred an undercoat rake due to it's effectiveness and easy-on-the-hands handle but that wasn't an option at that store.

Suffice it to say, I would NOT recommend the ShedMonster de-shedding tool after my experience with it. Any other tool would be better than a ShedMonster. I will be returning it for sure.

So reading this threads title and your first few sentences i was really excited up until you use the word "deflated" i was hoping someone found a new helpful tool. Looking at the pix before i started reading made it seem unique and i had hope it actually worked. Its a bummer that it didnt work. Thank you for your review!

I almost got one of these when I was looking for an undercoat rake when I first got Kenzi, then thought about it again after getting Keno and now I am glad that both times I opted to not buy it, instead getting an undercoat rake and a slicker brush. Sorry you have to deal with taking it back, but thanks for posting about it. I might have just given in to it the next time around if you hadn't.

Glad I could help you save your time and money!

I have 2 Furminators (1 is a single row, the other is a double row) and 2 slicker brushes at home so I'm going to just leave my extra Furminator and slicker at our vacation house so I don't run into this problem again. I will probably buy an extra undercoat rake, my all time favorite de-shedding tool, to leave at the vacation house also.

I use a goody hairbrush for long thick hair - it has widely spaced, very stiff plastic "bristles" with little balls on the end of each bristle. Ami seriously dislikes the undercoat rake and the slicker does little on him. He tolerates this...sort of Laughing I use it like regular hair brush when smoothing his coat, for serious undercoat raking, I turn it 90° - using just the width of the tip of the brush to go deep into his fur. Works but not really an elegant tool.

I too have tried a few different brushes on my two and prefer the furminator. Now I have the regular single row one for dogs and had picked up one of the furminator brand brushes for cats. Wouldn't you know my dogs both prefer the cat brush? Actually they will sit and look at it crying until I give them a good brushing with it! Such spoiled babies I have I love you
