I've always heard nightmares about pet insurance, so wanted to share my very positive experience!
My work offers a discount on VPI Pet Insurance, so while I was skeptical about it, I signed up because it was very cheap and figured it couldn't hurt.
I came home one night and noticed my Anya was a little "off". She was hiding from me, wouldn't play, etc. I checked her all over and checked in her mouth and nearly cried...the teeth on the left side of her mouth were snapped right off
No idea how she did it. There were no hard bones or anything around, no signs of blood. But we rushed her to the vet, and they recommended full extractions. With all the medicines she would need, it was going to cost over $1800. I chocked a little, but didn't hesitate, and handed over my credit card.
After surgery, my vet filled out the VPI claim form and gave me an itemized receipt, which I mailed in.
After a few days, I got a notification that my claim had been received, and was being processed. I was fairly certain it would be rejected or they'd cover maybe $200, so didn't get my hopes up.
After 2 weeks, the website updated my claim to "complete" and I got a check in the mail for $1700-the full amount minus my surgery deductible. I was utterly shocked! I thought for sure that money would never be seen, but it was a simple, no hassle-process. So glad I signed up!
Just wanted to share for anyone considering insurance. Even well bred, healthy dogs can do silly things!
